This review is about the Easter Egg hunt organized by Pioneer Farms on April 17, 2022. Several reasons why this is getting a 1 star: The tickets were honor system. Those who read the instructions went inside the store and bought tickets ($10 per head). There was no wrist band, no receipt. So many people who did not care to read the board just went by without any knowledge about tickets. It would be better to put this upfront as a voluntary donation instead so that people can choose. We felt a bit foolish for having paid $50 (especially since we didn't like it with all the other things mentioned in this review) while many others were not even aware of a ticket. There was no clear information on their website about when they would replenish the eggs. We reached at 1:30 and were told that eggs would be replenished at 2:00 (but they may have already been replenished, so we should go check). It was difficult to manage a 5 year old without knowing this in advance. There was nobody to provide any information at the Egg hunt ground. When we reached the ground designated for 4-7 year olds, it was mostly deserted with just one more parent and their kid trying to figure out if they were at the right place. When it was finally time to replenish the eggs, one guy came with a large box of eggs, and asked for "mothers" to help him spread them around. And then a minute later, he disappeared leaving the job completely to parents (without informing anyone). This was followed by a bit of chaos with some kids waiting for spreading to be over, others starting the hunt with parent volunteers trying to tell everyone to wait. Total lack of management!! Our kid was also disappointed that it wasn't much of a "hunt" as the eggs were just being dropped around in bulk while she was just standing there watching. There were several active anthills with fire ants in the Egg hunt ground for 4-7 year olds. If you are inviting kids to a paid event, you need to take care of these things. Thankfully we spotted one right before our daughter was about to step into in. One of the utility box covers in the ground was broken and we saw several kids getting tripped/ falling into it. Again something you need to pay attention to if you are expecting many kids. There wasn't a vibe of a festive event at all. It was just a bunch of grounds with kids and parents wandering around (mostly disappointed and waiting for eggs to be replenished). The management could have made it a bit more festive by playing some music maybe and adding some more events that would interest kids. The only good thing was a tour guide who seemed knowledgeable and was showing magic tricks to kids bringing some smiles on faces.
Overall, we (our kid and the adults) were all throughly disappointed. We drove 25 miles to the place and were expecting something way better than what we saw. We've been to other farms and they are way better organized for a...
ย ย ย Read moreOur children, ages 3-12, and I had a great time here! We stayed for about 3 hours and took our time reading most of the plaques. Our children loved that they had things like washboards and items of clothing to play with, as well as fun places to explore like a barn, several houses, and even the upstairs of one home. They loved being able to see teepees, and put themselves in a place where others lived years and years ago. They also enjoyed seeing the outhouses, blacksmith shop, donkeys, chickens, roosters, longhorns, and horses. I appreciated that there was plenty of room for them to run, play and explore, and that volunteers took their time to talk to our children and help them learn. I also appreciated that they had multiple restrooms throughout the property so anywhere we were on the property, we were close to one. If you're going to picnic, know that most of the tables have no shade. We ended up going back to our car to eat and then returned to finish our time on the property. Parking is on the property and very close and easy to access. On the day we visited there were several tour groups. Rather than get in the mix of trying to look at a property along with 20-30 other people, we would just take a break to look at the longhorns and go to the bathroom to allow the group time to be done, and then we had it to ourselves. We only had to do this once and it worked beautifully, giving us some space from the 8 other groups that were touring while we were there. Everyone was very pleasant and helpful, and we found this to be a great escape from our...
ย ย ย Read moreI was having a hard time knowing what to expect from the website and the few reviews I read. Attempting to describe our fun experience. We visited here early October so it was still a bit warm. There is a lot of walking involved if you want to see all of the cottages on the farm as you follow along a trail. There is a map you can take a picture of at the front but I didnโt find it super helpful as the numbers donโt map well to the various cottages / structures you see on the property. Take plenty drinking water. Each cottage you visit is setup with an 1800s theme. Old style living rooms, bedrooms, kitchen outside separated from the house, bathroom outside, wells, storage sheds buried half way under the ground. There are animal coups spread through the property. We visited close to Halloween so lots of pumpkins decorations. In short, there is a lot to do here if you like adventure and history. We didnโt do the narrated tour but I bet that 1.5 hour tour would be super Interesting. We passed on that assuming our 4.5 year old would want to deviate from the tour.. We plan to come back later in the month to experience pumpkin nights which happens each day of the week except Tuesdays. Sounds like a fun festival in the park with a lots of lights decorated across the park, food trucks and...
