Pioneer Farms is a historic living history site, with many buildings and homes from the 19th century and is a valuable part of preserving Texas history. It does have some animals, however is NOT solely a petting zoo, as some reviewers expressed disappointment when the sheer weight of history, the impressive furnished homes and businesses, the guides who give detailed history lessons, and all the frontier classes available failed to impress them. Most buildings do have plaques outside their doors describing where the home or barn came from. And there also was information about some early Austin residents.
