I visited this church for the first time on 8/17/2025 in order to experience a piece of Chinese Christian culture in American. The entire service was in English. I was officially greeted by a man in his thirties and his daughter (maybe 13). The official Congregational Care Pastor sought me out, introduced himself, and we talked for about 3-4 minutes. No one else said anything to me. The music was on the contemporary side and applicable to the loss of the three people killed in the Target shooting just two days prior. The sermon was from Exodus 28 and the priestly garment. The application focused more on how we dress and how well does it represent Christ. And while that is certainly relevant in any context, the pastor failed to say anything about the New Testament's teaching to, "put on Christ," and "clothe ourselves with humility." He missed a perfect opportunity to make the text relevant. Instead of preaching the text, he focused on trying to make a personal connection with his audience. He introduced the myth, as probable fact, of the priest having a rope tied around his waist in case he died while in the Holy of Holies. The pastor completely missed the point of the priest's personal holiness being a source of security to the people. Remember, the priest was a representation of what was to come in Jesus. At one point near the close of the sermon, the pastor said, "we are hopeless and worthless without Christ." That statement is fundamentally false simply because we are all created in the image and likeness of God, and have innate value. If I was his homiletics professor, he would have received a failing grade. This wasn't just a lousy sermon. This message was laced with tangible factors indicative of a leadership problem. Afterwards, I registered at the welcome booth with my name and email. Tim (ran the booth), asked for my opinion and I shared the above with him. He encouraged me to attend a one hour coffee group and share my experience with the leader. I attended and did not have a positive experience. Lane, the leader, failed to introduce himself (I had to ask), did not lay out parameters or guidelines for the time window to participate in the ice breaker, and left zero time to talk about the sermon. It seems that the church lacks depth or maturity in it's leadership, and some lay people need better training. As it is today, I would not attend again, nor recommend it to...
Read moreI really love this church. I would consider them to be more progressive than other Chinese churches while remaining steadfast in biblical principles. Everyone is very welcoming here. There are 3 ministries: English, Mandarin and Cantonese. In total, the church is large but I highly recommend checking this place out if you're new in town, visiting, or desiring to learn...
