You know, sometimes I just want to come in on a Friday and set some healthy habits in motion, but they close at 6:00....
Great library. In fact, the library deserves 10 stars!
It has wonky Friday, Saturday and Sunday hours though.
I don't think it matters as much as some people make it out if fewer people use the library on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. That logic is a bit like shutting down street lights at 11:00 P.M. because there are no cars. It's a community resource- not a for-profit business.
It's like public transportation. Routes that aren't used much are good because people know the system is extensive and they can rely on it to even go places where lots of people don't go (well, not in BR.) In that way although there might be fewer people coming to the library on a Friday night, it is still a benefit to the community.
We don't turn the water pumps off at 3:00 A.M. because almost no one uses water!
We don't forget about dangerous roads in the middle of nowhere because 20 people drive on them in a day.
That's my complaint- it's annoying...
Maybe they should at the very least keep one library open with normal hours Friday-Sunday.
Anyway,
... some other stuff I wrote earlier about the same thing, but not as clearly. I don't feel like fixing it:
The library should be open all day Saturday and Sunday. Right now it's 9 to 6 on Friday AND Saturday and 2 P.M.- 2 P.M.?!?! to 9 P.M. on Sundays. Why does the library close at 6 P.M. on Fridays??
What this promotes is doing things last minute (unhealthy rubbish.) The government should support good choices.
I get that staffing is probably a factor. Some older librarians might want to go to church on Sundays.
Anyways, at first I thought that maybe less people wanted to go to the library on Saturdays and Sundays, but Google says that Saturdays and Sundays have the busiest times in the whole week! And I'm sure these confusing times lower the demand.
A lot of people use the library as a community outlet to get away from situations that aren't the best at home. On Saturdays and Sundays most people don't go to work so the library should be open for these people.
I think another part of it might just be religion (not staffing.) Religion needs to get out of government. It has no place in...
Read moreThis is a Spectacular library. Not only is it huge, but it's quiet; as it should be. It is also beautiful and well taken care of. The library staff is helpful and knowledgeable. The first floor is the children's section that often has different events for kids to attend. If you take the stairs to the second floor you will see tons of computers to use, study rooms for groups, or if you prefer, there are personal study corners ducked off in various places along the walls by the books. If you take a right once you're off the stairs on the second floor you will see an extremely tidy room consisting of Louisiana archives for genealogy searching. It's especially quiet in that room. If you decided to take the elevator instead of the stairs, when you step out of the elevator on to the second floor you will notice a couple of commercial Multi-function machines for all printing/photocopy needs. (I believe it is pay-per-page). Of course, my brief account of the library floor plan could never do it justice. You have to go check it out...
Read moreAbsolutely love this library, I normally go to the Fairwood Branch close to my house for the convenient location but it closes at 6pm and my kids get out of school at 4 pm. The Goodwood Branch it’s well worth the little extra few minutes drive and besides they stay open until 9pm . It is so refreshing , calming, therapeutic makes you feel as if you were in an outside library. Technically it’s an indoor outdoor library. My special needs child is loving the fact that she can venture out in her mind and still be with me all at the same time. They have so many things to offer for kids and adults of every age group. It’s fun and educational so adequately equipped and spacious . My favorite part is the INSIDE RAINBOW that is never ending. I have went there four times in one week and Im sure I will probably be going more than that. This place will be added to my kids list of events. Thanks Goodwood Library for giving us a place that can offer us educational learning and therapy to our over all needs. We will...
