I cannot recommend this school based on my experience thus far.
My family was really excited about their acceptance to this school. However, interacting with them, I don't feel good about them going there.
My experience with this school so far ... The admissions team promotes that they have a support system for the student's success in place but, when I have tried to engage with their administration team, I have seen the opposite.
For months I have been battling trying to get them to just respond to a financial aid adjustment request which we qualify for. They told me their process, I waited patiently, then followed it, and still I am getting the run around. They simply have lazy people working in the office (mainly financial aid based on my experience) that will find any excuse to delay taking action.
I had to escalate the issue through their admissions team that I met at an in person event for newly admitted students in order for the financial aid counselor to even start on the request. ... Then the counselor started it but decided to delay fully processing it until the end of the summer...with excuses about them having an influx of request during the summer and a planned software update in the summer (although summer session is not even here yet). So basically, the counselor decided to do the bare minimum to not get in trouble and make it look like they are helping.
Other universities of notable ranking nationally processed the request right away.
LSU has given me nothing but the run around, yet they reminded us the acceptance deadline is approaching.
If I am having this much trouble getting assistance and, I'm an adult who has been to college and has more than one degree, I can only imagine how challenging it will be for a new or existing student who has to seek help on their own.
To clarify even though we are seeking a financial aid adjustment for this year, we are still going to have to pay substaintially (more than $20,000 each year); and somehow we still have to beg for their assistance.
From what I can see, they only care about collecting the more than $30,000 a year in tuition and fees from students; especially those coming in from out of state.
I would also like to note that their scholarship offers for out of state students are typically just enough to make you still pay their normal cost of tuition and fees (and actually it will be still a little more than in-state) if you are an out of state student. I personally don't consider that a valuable scholarship, I consider that dangling the carrot to entice out of state students so that they can entrap them with full tuition. I asked them would my family still get the merit if we qualified for residency, and I was told that if we qualified for residency the merit would be reduced to like $2,000. So either way, they were going to figure out how to charge us the full $30,000+ in tuition and fees.
Some schools that offer merit scholarship to out of state students will enusre that the scholarship offer is more than just reducing it to in state tuition and fees cost.
They also charge students to wash clothes. Most schools that we visited have gone away from this practice. Considering there are some relatively new dorms on the LSU campus, I'm struggling to understand why this system is still in place. I can only think that their goal is to nickel and dime students (and parents).
In my personal opinion, there are better schools out there that will actually be responsive and offer proper support. I truly wish my family wasn't wrapped up in the idea of this school's "school spirit" as making them a good college. School spirit is one thing, but that won't help students be successful.
I'm highly disappointed in this school. I had higher regards for them prior, but it is because I knew someone personally who attended long ago. He and his close college friends graduated and obtained nice jobs in IT. However, I realize now that their success had nothing to do with this university; it was already in their character to do well...
Read moreLSU is a complete and total scam. Please do not send your kids here. If you are anywhere near low-income trust me you will have a hard time. The dining halls (that they force you to get a $2,000 meal plan for if u live on campus) are never open. If you're on your own without parents they literally do not care. You are still kicked out for winter break unless you can somehow pay an obscene amount of money to stay here. The dorms are way overpriced. over $7,000 a year for half of super tiny room and a hall bathroom. All they care about is money. They will give you a ticket for pretty much anything they can. They will stretch a situation as much as possible just so they can tow your car. If you support yourself and don't have any money but need to get to work that day? Oh well walk and ride the bus and the cost will go up more the next day. The academics are comical. Everything is super dumbed down. It's a dangerous campus there have been so many armed robberies this year and very little done to improve safety. They would rather you get robbed at gunpoint than park in an empty commuter lot on the weekend when all the other spots you paid to be able to park in are full. They don't care about your success. They don't care that you are real human being with struggles. They don't care about their students well-being. They don't care about their students at all. Anyone who thinks this is a good school has obviously never seen an actual...
Read moreLast April I came from Michigan to check out Louisiana State University Campus and it was beautiful!!! LSU campus has been the best out of all of the colleges I have visted. My tour guide was outstanding and was very friendly and answered all of the questions I had. Also my tour guide found a way to get me free icecream which was a very nice gesture and the ice cream was outstanding. Also the LSU Student Activites Center is amazing and for my week that I spent in Baton Rouge I used it every day. I also visited Tiger Stadium (Death Valley) and that was a awesome experience in which I had my picture taking next to the entrance of the stadium. I forgot to also mention that the Lake surrounding the campus is absolutely beautiful and the campus is walking and jogging friendly all over. There is always a good amount of tree cover on campus to help you cool down when it gets really hot. Also I found that LSU has really good academics as well and that they will have you meet with a counselor your first year in order to establish a plan of what you want to do after college and what states you would want to find a job in. They did not say that at all of the other colleges I visited at. Finally, I can say that visiting LSU was one of the best experiences in my life and that I can't wait untill I start college here in the...
