This is an okay beach. I went here to go swimming and was underwhelmed with my experience. I walked down to the beach and was disappointed to find that the sand was quite gravelly and rocky. Instead of it being smooth sand it was to rocky, so it disturbed my feet when I walked on it. I sat my beach chair down on the beach and put on my swimming goggles which covered my nose because I was going to go swim under the water in the lake. As I was going into the water, a lifeguard told me that I wasn’t allowed to have that type of swimming goggle because it covered my nose. The lifeguard said that if I were to start drowning the goggles would make it harder for me to breath, but I have never heard of this type of restriction at any other beach. There wasn’t a sign posted anywhere on the beach stating this. After I took off my goggles I went back into the lake to swim, but much to my dismay, the lifeguards made everyone get out of the lake every 45 minutes so for 15 minutes. That really enraged me because I would rather stay in the lake the whole time instead of getting in and out every 45 minutes. After staying at try beach for a while, I left. I gave this beach three stars because it has low quality sand, they didn’t let me wear my swimming goggles, and they made me get out of the water every 45 minutes. However, I saw a very nice view of the downtown Cleveland skyline...
Read moreClean beach area. When it's very hot, it is usually jam-packed with people. A lot of foreigners frequent the area. The last time I was there I think I was the only person speaking english!!
Summer time is a bit crazy. Parking is scarce and usually spills over across the street into the fields. The native girls of the area are very attractive, almost worth a trip just to look at how the humans are evolving. Eerie water is usually murky but it can be decent at points when there isn't rain for a couple of weeks. Typically the water is cold/cool until mid to late summer. Once the water is warm and the air is hot, look out, the area will be infested with an overflow of beach goers [read hoe-ers]. The playground will be swamped and the air will smell of heavy cologne and oils. Pre-hot-summer when the sun is warm but the air and water is colder is arguably the best time to visit. You can lay on the beach without harassment from strange eyeballs, play in the sandy beaches and enjoy the area without being on constant alert. The nature center across the street is nice. A pleasant surprise!
Picking the time of day and length of stay is a good idea. Worth a visit but caution with the large crowds.
The one trail had a weird looking sign 😳 Pic...
Read moreGoing to this beach was kind of a last minute idea when in the Avon area on a mini vacation with my wife- but I'm really happy I decided to give it a look. We stopped by on a Monday late morning after breakfast at the very plesant Bay Diner, just to look around and take in the views.
This beach and surrounding park seems meticulously well kept and designed, and the playground would be a place my kids would have loved if they weren't enjoying time with their grandparents. The addition of chairs on the ledge by the snack bar area is a great touch, so one can relax and look at the views of the lake without even having to get in the sand.
My wife and I did get down to said sand and enjoyed a little walk before a downpour cut our time short and sent the beach denizens to the various sheltered areas. The glimpses of the Cleveland skyline far down the coast was a nice addition, and I could definitely enjoy spending some additional time here on a warm day with my family. Definitely worth the stop, regardless of...
