I love this place, my wife and I have been coming here together our entire relationship and ultimately fell in love here💑. I have been blessed with a seasonal position as a maintenance aid and hope to be here helping this park look pristine for the rest of my life. There are bald eagles that dwell here along with many other bird species, a seasonal salmon migration that allows fisherman to bring in that prize and even beavers if you keep an eye out. You can find an amazing native botanicle garden with amazing volunteers lovingly dedicating their time to it. The views you can achieve are easily accessible and there are many trails to traverse to heighten that experience. It is a great place to picnic with friends and family, and offers an awesome array of physical activities along the bike/jogging road heading from military west to the point (end of the roadway)💪. The wildlife around is immense, but you do have to take the time to look so I recommend some nice binoculars if you'd like to get the most out of what is around. 5 stars from me long before I ever had the pleasure of working...
Read moreUpdate: Below was the review of many, many months ago. Unfortunately now, it's a different experience due to encounters with visitors who present with rudeness and behaving in a manner that does not prioritize other's safety and positive community. Props to the local rangers who try to keep this place safe for local residents and those that appreciate nature and behave in a civil manner. Peace!
Benicia State Recreation area is STILL awesome! Great place for a walk, jog/run, or cycling. Never too crowded. Wish attendants were back at the kiosk/entrance areas, but oh well as long as visitors are respectful of the park's natural beauty/habitat and are mindful of throwing trash in the garbage (remember those things called trash cans?), then it will stay BEAUTIFUL. :...
Read morePaved walkway with separate bike Lanes from K St. lot is marked in tenths of a mile. On the way back near the lot again, I think it has a marker showing 4.5 miles, if I remember correctly. It is flat and almost entirely unshaded until you get to the other side over by the headlands. It goes near wetlands, and there is a dirt trail loop closer to them. The headlands and point are close to the shipping Lanes of the Carquinez Strait, which has fast tidal currents when they're running. The views can be beautiful, and on the other side of the strait are train tracks with quite a few freight and passenger trains. This area through the strait can be quite windy, especially on Summer afternoons. Parking as of 3/31/19 is $6. It appears some people park on the...
