My mother attended the committal service for PFC Travis Herschel Russell in 2000 with his mother, Laura Russell, and other family members. My mother, Doris Thigpen, is a family friend of many years. As we live over two hours away, when we come to the MS Gulf Coast for other reasons, Mom likes to go to the gravesite. (She, too, lost a son and knows the heartache.) Since her last trip, Mom has suffered a stroke that left her with mild deficits. Once we reached the cemetery and used the kiosk to confirm the section, I realized I was at a loss as to how to safely get her there. Just then a member of the staff came out of the admin building to return to whatever task he was working on via his work cart, and I asked him for direction and help. Mr. Fred Ealy (I apologize that I don’t know his proper title, though he is a veteran) went above and beyond in my opinion, to secure permission to transport Mom using a conveyance which he had to go to another location to get (cutest little buggy you ever saw).
I realize this is probably routine for the staff there, but his help made what cold have been a struggle turn into a blessing. You see, this visit was special in another way: PFC Russell’s mother, Laura, was lost to us in a house fire just less than a year ago, along with his brother and sister-in-law, Robbie and Betty. For Mom and me, this visit to honor a son’s memory was especially poignant, and the special care to get her there, plus the supportive manner and caring words by Mr. Ealy made it everything it should be. At almost 82, who knows but what it could be her last. Thank you, Mr. Ealy, and all the staff who help keep treasured memories alive in such a beautiful and...
Read moreThe Military Service of my Sister was wonderful. Thankfully no rain. Only thing that was missed (by accident) was mentioning of her brothers in the service. Thank you to the people who run this establishment to the care they gave each and everyone who traveled from so far away (Michigan) and others. They all were professional, and the respect the people from the nearby Air Force Base was appreciated by all for the flag ceremony. May she and her husband Larry...
Read moreThe lady that was doing the parking (blondish gray short hair) was extremely disrespectful! She was yelling at everyone about the parking and made everyone leave right after the service. I along with others am very disappointed. Get your act together Biloxi National Cemetery! I will also be calling to complain about this woman. We should be respectful at a funeral to all! You should be ashamed to have staff as cruel...
