Very other worldly. Some of the rock formations in the area reminded me of the worm heads from "Tremors" (which was filmed not far from this trailhead). Not a long loop. Rock steps in a couple of steep spots (no hand rails). Trail mostly marked with rocks but lack of clear signage caused us to go off the main trail part of the hike. Not a trail for seniors unsteady on their feet. There is an arch to be seen from the parking lot but that is not Mobius Arch. For that you need to hike in.
Short drive outside of Lone Pine, CA. Road to Mobius Arch is Movie Road off of Whitney Portal. Movie Road goes to dirt pretty quickly but not bad when dry-no ruts or washboarding. The whole surrounding area is also fun to hike in. Do be sure to wear sturdy shoes/hiking boots and have plenty of water. Hats and sun block also suggested. We went in mid-November and temps not bad. Summer would...
Read moreLoved this little trail. This is seriously an easy trail and easy to get to. We went mid week which has its perks. Okay so the road does turn to dirt but it is graded nicely. We managed to get our trailer back and out just fine, but at a slow pace of course. If you have a 4x4 you should bring it and have a dang good time out here. Pay attention to all the roads, you could probably get lost easy because their are so many off road trails. The arch loop is probably 1.5 miles total. Anyone mobile can do it. The views from this spot are 360° of wow. The rock formations are indescribable and it’s easy to see why so many movies have been filmed out here. This is BLM land, so if your looking for some insane night shots on a clear night, you might bring a tent and camp your heart out. Basically don’t miss this. It’s close to town...
Read moreI have seen photos of this arch so many times that I was hyped to see it in person. Some might say the stone itself is little overrated, but in this case it is not about the destination but the journey. This and surrounding locations feel like they are out of a scifi movie (well, they did shoot some movies around here). On the way to the stone we climbed every high point to get another amazing view. Overtime it feels overwhelming, but that's OK - just take tons of photos and you can pick the best ones. Once you reach the arch, there was a short line - after all everybody is going there to take a photo of the arch or with the arch. If you wait long enough you can have the arch all for yourself. I would also think about coming here either early morning or late afternoon to avoid harsh...
