Makes for a nice evening walk. There is a lot to see here in terms of wildlife and foliage. The creek is beautiful but is often polluted from run off. We spotted at least 4 signs warning people to stay out but it seems no one heeded the warning. We saw several maternity shoots taking place in the water, bare feet and all, despite a sign being posted before entering the creek area. I was pretty flabbergasted to say the least. On a more positive note, we really enjoyed the meditation area and the small fortress structure. We saw a variety of plant and animal life including an armadillo, rabbits, a coyote, squirrels, deer, snakes, and butterflies. There are a few stations for picking up after your dogs, which must be leashed at all times. The bathrooms didn't have soap and were pretty icky but I've seen worse and hey at least there was toilet paper! This is a great place for the family. I only deducted a star because the water always seems to be polluted and for there not being soap...
Read moreI was met at the front by James Uphoff, who was very nice and showed me where to go and what all I could do today. It was very enjoyable to walk along the trails at the Cibolo Nature Center & Farm as a trail steward. I conducted basic maintenance by picking up litter along the trails and main area for the first few hours. This was very rewarding to see the area cleaner than it was before I got there. I got to give some folks directions and offered to take one family's photo down by the creek. After that, I refilled some bird feeders at the center followed by some light bird watching and stimulating conversation with James and other nature lovers. Overall this was a great experience and I can't wait to come back to volunteer like this again and possibly as a camp volunteer...
Read moreThis type of environment is right up my alley but I was disappointed. The visitor center is closed (I am assuming for Covid?), so that felt weird, but they had maps outside so we picked one up. But don't bother. The map is misleading and confusing (and I consider myself to be a decent map-reader). Additionally, the trails are hardly marked. Both trails my crew and I ended up taking were dead ends and we had to turn around instead of taking the loops we thought we were traveling. We even walked through some thick brush areas, thinking they had just overgrown. While this was very frustrating, the area itself is beautiful and the pathway across the river is fun and refreshing to play in. The trees and flowers seen on the...
