Davenport Pier is a beautiful, scenic beach but it suffers from being a little tough to access. The view from the sea cliff is great, and the iconic cement pillars in the waves are visible from up there. The hard part is getting down to the beach. There is a very steep and slippery trail that is the only way up or down, and on crowded days there can be a slow creeping trail of people backing it up, both trying to go up and down at the same time. It can get frustrating because of that. Also, this beach seems to have more trash on it than others, mostly empty bottles left behind by those that are too uncoordinated to carry their garbage back up. The ultimate Instagram photo op exists at the swing perched at the stone arch right along the center shore, but again if it's a crowded day there can be a long line to take your turn on it and waiting in line at the beach is just kinda lame. The cliffs are covered in beautiful graffiti that adds to the concrete grungy-ness of the beach, including an amazingly painted tunnel that looks like a big open maw. Off to the either side of the beach there are some nice little alcoves or natural stone terraces to chill with some friends at, but remember not to get too get drunk if you to happen to be imbibing because you still have to...

I had higher expectations based on what I've heard of it, but overall it's a very calm spot. I was lucky to not find a lot of ppl. It was just a shame the swing had only one rope, seems like the other one ripped off or something. Yet, it was still enjoyable, just hanging from one side. The sunset was really nice. The tricky part is getting down there, it's a steep hill with rocks but there is a rope for some support. So you have to be very careful going down. I would recommend to wear shoes that have a good grip so you don't slip going down or even climbing down. There is also a small like waterfall, but i didn't go check it out. And for those who plan to have a picnic or bonfire, just please pick up after yourself, don't leave your trash behind! It is a nice simple spot to enjoy. There is a spot for parking...

Nobody mentions any warning about the way down for some reason. It's a nice area with beautiful views of the oceans and the cliffs that surround you. Relatively secluded area considering most people are not willing to make the descent. The sand is a little coarse compared to other beaches in the near area such as Santa Cruz beaches. There are very delicious restaurants found in Davenport with cozy settings. You can grab some food and take it with you to watch the sunsets. Some dirty people don't deserve the right to enjoy this place as they are apparently able to go down with the full weight of their 12 packs, but all of a sudden cannot climb up with empty cans and decide to leave their trash there. The swing was intact when we arrived but someone broke it minutes later. It seems it gets repaired quite...

This looks like so much fun! @nilanjana.14 sure knows how to have a good time 😊😊😊 Have you been to the swing at the abandoned Davenport Pier? Please be advised it is extremely steep and dangerous to get down to the abandoned pier! . . . . . . . #discovercalifornia #california #westcoast #pacificocean #pacificcoasthighway #highway1 #highwayone #california1 #westcoastbestcoast #californiabeaches #calibeaches #westcoastbeaches #beachtherapy #beachliving #beachmode #beachliving #highway1discoveryroute #highway1roadtrip #californiabeaches #californiacoastline #cacoast #calicoast #calicoastline #coastalcalifornia #californiabeachlife #highway1discoveryroute #davenportpier #davenportcalifornia

The Must-See Hidden Gems Along California's Highway 1/San Francisco/San Fran/Bay Area! The beauty along Highway 1 never ceases to amaze! Many spots have already become super popular, but the sea swing at Davenport Pier and the rainbow town of Capitola are rarely mentioned. ❣️Sea Swing at Davenport Pier Personally, the sea swing is the most intriguing. Even my Instagram post got the most likes of the year! 🌟Just Google "Davenport Pier" to find it. It took me about an hour from the Bay Area, and a bit longer from San Francisco. Once you reach the Google Maps location, you'll see houses on the right and the coast on the left. Drive another 200 meters or so, find a spot to park by the highway, then cross a small railway track and walk to the cliffside by the sea. If you can't see it, it might be hidden. PS: The little railway track is also great for photos. 🌟Near the "Climbing" tag in the fourth photo, there's a trail that makes climbing up and down easier. I'd read on Red that it was tough and dangerous, but it wasn't as bad as I thought. Only on the way there did I realize I needed to climb 20 meters to reach the swing. I was wearing jeans and mid-heeled boots... [Laughing] I thought it was hopeless, but I gritted my teeth, climbed down, and then back up! I was so moved by myself! [Crying] My first time climbing, and I did it in leather boots! No safety gear either! Felt like I'd surpassed myself! Haha! [Proud] Inspirational quote, coming right up! 🌟So, fellow travelers, make sure to wear sneakers! 🌟Even if you don't have sports gear, bring a change of clothes! Reason in the first photo! [Panicking] I went in March at midday, not during high tide. But you never know what the waves will do! I stood on the swing, thinking the waves would mostly reach my legs. Then, a huge wave suddenly swallowed me whole! So unexpected! The water was freezing! I guess the Ice Bucket Challenge feels like this... [Laughing] I jumped off the swing and howled in pain [Frustrated], then shivered for a while... Finally recovered... Luckily, I had a dress to change into! Quickly switched back to my sweater, jeans, and boots... 🌟I recommend wearing a swimsuit 👙, it's a better choice! Looks good in photos and you won't mind getting wet! Then change back into your sports gear to climb up! Though it was a bit risky, and I was sore the next day, it was totally worth it! One of the most special experiences on the trip! [Thumbs up] ❣️Rainbow Town of Capitola Very close to Davenport, just a 20-minute drive. Photo 5 was taken on the beach, just park near the bridge and walk down the path to reach the beach. But the town also has many fairytale-like houses, interesting shops, and bars. Many houses make great photo backdrops. If you have time, stroll around the town and take some photos, it's a lovely little romantic escape! ❣️For more on the other beauties of Highway 1, check out my next travelogue! [Flying kiss] Feel free to leave questions in the comments, I'll do my best to answer!
