If you are thinking of reserving the Sunrise Amphitheater for a wedding, scroll all the way down from this review for a "heads-up".
I attended a wedding here and it was such a BEAUTIFUL venue!! There were only about 25 people at the wedding which made it nice and intimate. The amphitheater is a perfect place for small wedding events.
Although it rained a little in the beginning, the beauty of Colorado is that the rain lasts for 10 minutes then the sun comes back out. Personally, the quick weather adjustments added more charm to the wedding. 💍
My two fantastic friends had the perfect wedding and chose the perfect spot! Also I highly recommend coming here to simply sink in the view!
Pro-tip: OK so...
My friends rented this spot for their wedding. About 15 minutes beforehand, a group of 5-10 people showed up and went down to the amphitheater. Apparently they snuck in a quick wedding! Very very bold of them. Clearly they didn't rent the spot so just wanted to conduct a "quickie". Keep that in mind if you are planning to rent Sunrise. Fortunately the group left before my friend's wedding commenced. We were going to kick them...
Read moreI've photographed about a dozen weddings and elopements at Sunrise Amphitheater, and it remains one of my favorite wedding venues in the Boulder area. A couple of pro tips for anyone interested in booking it:
Spend the $100-400 extra on reserving two back-to-back time slots, so you don't have to worry about rushing in and out of there, having a wedding before yours run late and go into your time slot, or having a wedding show up to start setting up before your time is over.
Morning ceremonies by far have the best light here. Anything after 3-4 pm gets spotty, shadow-heavy light when the sun starts dipping behind the trees above the amphitheater, and make your photographer's job much harder.
Rent shuttles or a party bus if your guests are coming from out of state. Driving up Flagstaff can be intimidating for people who don't live in the mountains.
Know that there's always a chance you'll have some random tourists/hikers/visitors stop to watch your wedding from the top of the amphitheater, even if it's clearly reserved. People are nosy.
Hope that helps! It's BEAUTIFUL—you can't go wrong getting...
Read moreIf they tell you you have to cut down the amount of people attending a wedding or ceremony, they are lying when they say theyre looking out for your safety and best intrests. Your ceremony will not be private in any way. It was infuriating watching random hikers, with no relation to the wedding whatsoever, come and sit down to fill the amphitheater, while acual family members were told they all couldn't attent because of the COVID-19 threat of spreading. I was invited as a guest, but it was very disssapointing knowing this place does not care about your health or best interests with your ceremony. Idk the cost, but unless the wedding party got a DEEP discount, this is NOT a good place to hold a ceremony right now. Its pretty up...
