This is absolutely amazing! The tour guide was fantastic and thorough. Did you know Father Flanagan inspired and helped implement many much needed safer establishments that mirrored his vision and successfully helped to make it a reality across the world! 🌍 Especially after wars as it left so many orphans. This campus is impressive words can't do it near as much justice. It is quite self sufficient, including two schools. One is a middle school and a high school. I must mention first that it has a very nice vocational program to teach skills and help insure success! The homes are soundly structured and includes a live-in married couple with a focused number of children residing in it. There is helpful staff to support the home. I saw the majority of homes had a basketball hoop in the driveway. I was very happy to see children outside and riding bikes as well. They offer an indoor facility for exercise including basketball courts as well as a large pool just to name a few. They have an outdoor baseball and football field as well as basketball and volleyball courts. These are great positive reinforcements! An on campus police station, bank, library, cafeteria, churches. Facilities based on psychological treatments. Physical therapy and so much more! Very impressed! Some youth go off campus for jobs if they show responsibly. This truly provides hope where it may have...
Read moreThe Father Flanagan House on the Boys Town Campus in Omaha, Nebraska is a wonderful place to tour. Boys Town is its own city, a village to be precise, located within Omaha. The campus is open to visitors and despite misconceptions by some, including some who live in Omaha, there are no gates or guards to get past to visit the campus! Father Flanagan wanted the campus to be the boys' home and not a prison; the boys were able to come at any time and no one was forced to stay. This house was the actual home of Father Flanagan who founded Boys Town. The house isn't open all the time so check schedules online. A great time to visit is in December when the house is decorated for Christmas as it would have been in Flanagan's time in the 1930's and 1940's as if time has stood still. Being able to see the furnishings and design of such a classical home is interesting and fun, but even more fun is that the home is also partially a museum. Visitors get to see Father's famous desk that was built by boys who lived on campus at that time; it's an amazing work of carpentry and craftsmanship. Visitors also get to see examples of the beds the boys had, as well as one of the early classrooms right in the house itself. The house is a short walk past some of the gardens and behind the Boys...

You can visit Father Flanagan's home, as well as the churces on campus (I know they have a Catholic church and another Christian one within a block of each other). They also have a museum of BoysTown that includes some history of Omaha. It's a very family friendly place. They have a beautiful campus and a great walking garden across from the Catholic church. You can also attend services on Sunday morning. They are highly attended so it is frequently...
