My wife and I had a rare opportunity to have a mid week dinner date just the two of us and decided to try out Mahogany’s new location. All I can say is wow, wow & WOW!!!!!!!!
From the moment you walk into the absolutely stunning restaurant, you are greeted by countless employees with warm welcoming attitudes. We had a reservation and were seated immediately. Not one, but TWO servers were quickly upon us introducing themselves and making us feel welcome. These two would continue to provide 110% service throughout the entire evening for us by checking on us frequently, insuring we were satisfied with the appetizers, then by our meals and always insuring our drinks were topped off. It was a brilliant strategy I’ve never personally encountered before actually. It’s quite efficient because when one server is helping another table, the partner is taking care of you and visa versa! Maybe we just got lucky because we were there in the early evening, but everything was served so quickly and in perfect time frame order too. We had only about a 10 min gap from appetizers to the meal itself.
Onto the food…. I’m struggling to find the right word right now. So many instantly come to mind! “Exceptional” “Exquisite” “Stunning” “Mind Blowing” “ extraordinarily perfect” You name it, all the words and phrases you can think of come to mind! I had the salmon and my wife had the rack of lamb. My first bite may me instantly envision I was on a beach restaurant in Key West eating fish that had just been caught it. It was THAT good! That chef could be my chef for life with this perfection. Every bite was as good as the next with temperature consistency, flavor and toppings. Presentation on both meals was beautiful. My wife ordered her rack of lamb “medium rare” and the chef absolutely nailed it! She said it was the best lamb she can ever remember having that was cooked EXACTLY as she wanted it. Not too done, not too raw, just perfect.
Of course we were offered very appealing desserts but we were just too stuffed to eat anymore lol. Our servers both were kind by offering us to relax, enjoy another drink and not rush out as to maybe once the food settles there would be room for that dessert. Excellent sales strategy no doubt, but we passed. We always tip our servers well as they need to make a living too, but I’m quite sure my wife slipped even more cash in after I handed her the binder because she too was that impressed with their extraordinary service!
Complaints? Nothing of the sort comes to mind. Suggestions? Perhaps slightly more offerings on the menu? I had been to the old location for a work gathering before and felt that the menu there had more to pick from than the current. But it is a new location and I’m sure they took a hard look at every business strategy before opening, including having the most common desired and or profitable items available to choose from. Another suggestion would be offering a “drink of the day” so to speak. We both ordered cocktails with mine having jalapeño spice in it. Both were incredibly delicious! I bet if a drink of the day from the bartender was offered it would give folks an opportunity to try new drinks when they come in and if that drink of the day was “special priced” it would cause folks to order more drinks throughout the visit. We all know what more liquor can do to one’s mindset lol.
To Mahogany steakhouse, keep up the good work. We can’t wait to come back AND request our servers. This brings up another thing to mention. As we said our goodbyes, both servers offered their business cards and stated we are welcome to request them ahead of time as our servers! They were an amazing team and we surely will do just that. I’ve never encountered this before and I love the concept! It’s like finding that one service tech you love to work on your car. You will build a relationship with him/her and before you know it that person knows exactly how you like things and will do all he/she can to insure your visit is perfect and return. Trust...
Read moreWhat a downgrade from their previous location. The front outside of the building reminded me of my dentist office in CA. Once inside, it was a cold look into an enormous bar that just looked like a dive without decorations. Under their rotating door (it was obviously not installed correctly) has disgusting deep grooves in their beautiful new flooring. We were taken to the left, past their wine storage to a room that was very cold. The artwork looked cheap, and the table cloths were frayed, snagged, and stained. There were booths on one side of the room, free standing tables through the center, and then a "Mc Arches" themed extremely long bench with a few tables in front of it with 2 chairs on the opposite side of each table. The lights were huge circles that seemed to be lit from within but lacked any creativity, they may have been pulled from a wagon wheel and hung last minute to ensure there was no lighting at all. Tonight's off menu choices seemed to be of gigantic slabs of meat or 5 ounce portions, both extravagantly priced. I ordered a filet and ordered it medium rare, finally something worth raving about! That steak was so perfect, I could eat it every meal for a week! The asparagus was mediocre at best. Their scallops wrapped in bacon were crunchy on the outside, but cold and slimy, maybe even raw on the inside. The champagne vinaigrette that was on the salad in between the three scallops was divine. The creme brulee and the creme brulee cheesecake were to die for, absolutely decadent. My favorite drink from them used to be winter in Jalisco. However, that was removed from the menu, so I tried the Hotel California tequila based drink covered in Tajin, and it could not even come close to comparing. Honestly, there was so much seasoning on the rim that I couldn't taste the drink. I understand training new staff and moving to a new location is incredibly rough on a business however the Aesthetics and Ambience really fall short. I'm not so sure that the one night every 6 months that I get to go out on the town away from the hustle and bustle of my life is worth going to this place again. By the way, the server was amazing even though he was only there three or four nights prior to us coming in, we left him a hefty tip as I know that being a server does not pay the greatest the customer service in this establishment is and has always been...

My wife and I arrived ten minutes early on Valentine's Day for a reservation I made two weeks ago. We were excited to try Mahogany for the first time. We were seated right away at a table in the lounge nearest the front door. I asked to be seated at another table and the hostess told me she need to speak to a manager. There were five hostesses, but they needed to speak with a manager to find us another seat. OK, it is busy...No problem.
The manager comes over two minutes later, without introducing himself, and said, "In the notes for the reservation, you were informed that you would be seated in the lounge." I told him that I was not informed of that (honestly, I was never informed of that when I made the reservation or any time after). I also pointed out a table in the main dining area that was not taken and asked if we could sit there. He told me that the table was reserved for someone at 7 (we were there at 6). We could either sit where we were or be finished by 7 at the other table. Ah, I got it. So that table was reserved for more important people than my wife and me. By the way, no sorry and no apology from the manager or anyone. What a strange thing to be told, "You can sit there, but you need to be done by 7." I've never been told such a thing in my life at any restaurant.
I looked at my wife to check if we were still on planet earth and she asked if I would just like to go. Since it was Valentine's Day, I figured every other place was booked, so let's just let it go and enjoy the evening.
After about 5 minutes of my back getting cold everytime the door opened and then seeing another couple sit down at the table I just pointed out to the manager (the table that was reserved for an hour after we arrived), we got up and left.
No one even cared that we left. Even today, no one from management reached out via my cell phone, which they have from the reservation, to ask why we left. One business manager on another site wrote, “That’s definitely not what we want to hear. I will send this information to management.” No apology, just an assurance that our mistreatment would be sent to the manager who...
