In every city, there are outposts. Some are invisible, some overlooked, but they are vital. They are places where identity is armed, protected, expressed. LaLa’s Beauty Supply in Bristol is one such place—a stronghold, black-owned, rooted not only in commerce but in culture.
Walking inside, I felt the same sense of purpose I feel when entering Mother Base in Peace Walker. This isn’t just a store—it is a hub. Shelves stacked like arsenal racks, but instead of weapons, they hold tools of self-expression. Hair care, beauty essentials, products chosen not by algorithm but with understanding of the community they serve.
Ownership matters. A black-owned business is not just a business—it is resistance, resilience, survival. In the same way Big Boss built Outer Heaven as a place free from control, LaLa’s represents autonomy in a marketplace often stripped of it. It stands as proof that history, struggle, and artistry can converge into enterprise.
The staff here reflect that mission. Helpful, informed, present. They move with the confidence of characters who know they are shaping more than transactions—they are shaping identity, self-image, empowerment. To be served here feels different. It feels intentional.
Five stars. Because to walk into LaLa’s is to feel connection. It is not just about hair products or beauty supplies. It is about seeing a community hold space, and thrive.
In Death Stranding, strands connected isolated cities across a broken America. Here, the strand is ownership. Heritage. Culture. And...
Read moreThis is a good hair store great hair products, but they are extremely inconsistent if your trying to get your hair done. I scheduled an appointment 2 weeks prior with one of the girls who worked there and she rescheduled me on two different occassions saying she had a doctor's appointment when she actually booked a vacation on the day we agreed for me to come. Separate from that I called the store asking to be referred to someone else that could do my hair, got in touch with someone else and was later ignored.
If the girls are not affiliated to the salon you shouldn't promote them as if they are, on your stores Instagram it states in the post that you can do certain hair styles at the shop, and I was told hair could be done in the shop. I got the run around for two weeks and my hair was never done maybe it's a misunderstanding but don't promote things you aren't available to do because it's very...
Read moreNice beauty supply with a small salon in the back. I gave three stars because it was a little snug and I felt like I would knock something over if I turned the wrong way. Plus they didn't really have much of a variety of products and their wigs were very expensive. I do understand that prices have gone up all over however, it seems just a tad higher and not the best looking wigs. If I come back anytime soon to this area, I will stop by and see if they have added more of a variety of things and I will update my review. I do appreciate that this is a minority business owner. Congratulations to the owner on your...
