Was taking in the Historic places around Brownville with a friend...and saw the Castle on the hill. Upon investigating, I found a great views of the surrounding area and a very neat looking castle/house structure that was Nemacolin Castle. Was told it was a trading post for settlers at one point. While I was there, a reenactment of Union Soldiers at there camp was going on. A drunkin deserter who stole a bottle of booze from the Commissary was beening found and tried for his crimes. I laughed at the antics. The picuture attached is the unit of soliders.

We love to visit Nemacolin Castle, also known as Bowman's Castle during Halloween for the candlelight ghost tours. The castle is truly haunted but all the spirits are friendly. Make sure to take a lot of pictures because you never know what you are going to see. There are also tours at Christmas time and all the rooms are decorated beautifully. There are pretty Christmas trees and lights throughout the castle. My family really enjoys the tours.

Great historical landmark We were surprised to hear there was an actual castle near us. Highly recommend going here if you like history and going places like Gettysburg. The volunteer staff are friendly and the events they have are fun (like wine tasting and tea parties). Most of the furnature is original, so it’s great to see 100-200 year old pieces. If you go for one of their events, they can sell out, so get tickets in advance if you can.

I love the castle and its history. Two of my daughter's volunteered here back in high school, and I've visited it in the past. They offer tours during Pike Days as well as vendors, food and live music ... in the fall around Halloween, they do Ghost Tours which are spooky and interesting. My girls as well as many others say that it honestly is haunted... In December, they do Christmas tours - which are simply beautiful! Each room has an enormous tree all decorated with period ornaments and baubles. Gorgeous! The guides are knowledgeable and questions are encouraged. If you haven't taken a tour, please do. If you have, take one again. There are always new things to see each time that you didn't...

I haven't been to this place. I just wanted to comment about some of the pics. Has anybody paid attention the pic on the website, the 1st one? If you look, it looks like a mist in front of the tower, & there's a cross. Another pic a guy Benjamin took, there's a bue streak in the pic & a blue orb in the bottom left corner. Another pic a lady took, there are 3 orbs in tht pic in the dining area. Pay attention to the pics yall. Never know what u might see. I've also noticed in several pics of the outside of the castle .....there's a mist. Just look at the pics. Maybe someday I'll have enough money to travel from VA and see the castle. I'm an empath and I love...

Would give a 5 because it's a beautiful place. However midway through our tour I was in a room that connects three rooms like a throughway. But because I was about 12 ft from our guide in full view of him he rudely and sternly raises his voice and says sir I'm over here! Completely unnecessary and unprofessional. Rules were no touching anything, no flash, no video and no falling behind. I was breaking no rules. I just wasn't paying attention to the guy enough I guess and it irritated him. But Im a photographer I came there for pictures. I wasn't exactly there for the stories. I actually left the tour...
