This is an incredible tree!!! Oh the things it has seen! No charge to see it. It is well marked. It is in the middle of a residential area. I knocked 1 star off because there is no clear area to park. I did not want to take parking from someone who lived there. I am sure the people that live in the area would like some designated parking area. There was no one else there when we visited so it wasn't a problem. Read moreThis along with the Lanier Oak is one of the oldest living Georgians. It easily predates the Constitution and is purported to be over 900 years old. Of course, we don’t know, but it is still very impressive. It is in a residential neighbourhood as others have said, so be polite and courteous. It is covered in Spanish moss, so maybe if you’d like a souvenir, take a strand from the ground (beware of critters) and bring that home, but leave the tree itself alone. Read moreThe tree is massive, but go to Darien, look for the courthouse, walk out to the road, hiway 17 (north walton st), stay on the right hand side, as you turn right on road 99 its on the right. "Google the oak tree in Darien GA that General Oglethorpe camped under". And there's a road behind Todd Elementary school in Darien. Take it, schools' gonna be on your right as you go behind it, then look on the right for a driveway that goes to the graveyard, there you will find GEORGE... a freed slave who was loved by so many that they had a headstone...
