My experience at Southern Virginia surpasses the term "excellent"
Several members of the administration, faculty, and staff have gone exceedingly far beyond the guidelines of their jobs in order to help me succeed.
I cannot describe the love and devotion that I have experienced from my professors, the administration, and students at Southern Virginia.
I have had professors stay long past their scheduled office hours in order to help me understand material.
I have had financial aid advisors spend hours and hours, including time from their vacations, finding a way for me to be able to afford my education, when I applied for school two weeks before the semester began.
I have recieved hand written thank-you cards from the acting president just because I spoke for five minutes at a forum.
I have witnessed professors pay out of their pockets in order to supply the best learning experiences possible.
I am not a professor's daughter. I am not an athlete.
If one has had a negative experience at this wonderful institution, I can only believe that he or she rejected or overlooked what Southern Virginia offers.
If the quality of the cafeteria food or the choice of resident advisors is why your experience at Southern Virginia was poor, then you sadly missed out on an influential opportunity to grow both mentally and spiritually with the guidance of a wonderful and dedicated administration, faculty, and staff.
Southern Virginia has given me far more than an education. What I will leave here with...
Read moreThis school is definitely not for everyone. I attended for one full school year and had my ups and downs with the school. Going there I found that the size of the school (about 800 student) was roughly about the size of my high school graduating class. That makes it very easy for the college community to be a little to easy and prone to gossip and high school like clicks and drama. It was disappointing to fined out the large amount of money you pump into this school comes out to be a very low funded one. Many of the facilities are out dated and run down. Being an athlete I would actively work out in there gym that was very dirty and unsanitary. There was treadmills that would brake down and no sanitary napkins to clean your machinery. The cafeteria food is very unhealthy and unappealing. The school has a lot of money going into sports that end up unsuccessful and over rated. Communication is one of the most frustrating things there very slow and uncoordinated. I did enjoy parts of the community and I made some ever lasting friends. I did enjoy some social aspects I got to experience as well as the opportunities to go to a low cost travel study to New York for thanksgiving. I was able to go to D.C. For a day with an awesome Zoology...
Read moreIf you are looking to get the most out of your college experience, go to Southern Virginia University. The education you will receive is worth the money you pay for. You'll probably go from this review page to look at the school and see that tuition is higher than you'd like and you'll get freaked out by all the negative comments and on and on and on. Listen, this university changed my life. I met people here who taught me how to think big. The professors can't be matched. You will not get the amount of personalized attention at any other school that you do at SVU. The athletics programs are fantastic. I graduated high school thinking I would never play football again. Southern Virginia University gave me 4 more years of football. The student body is a close knit community of people who are all grinding their way through college just like you. They are a great support system. Some of the most caring and understanding people I know are friends that I made at SVU. Bottom line, the school is worth your time. You'll double whatever amount of work, time, or money you decide to...
