Please please visit here. Any reviews here prior to fall 2018 apply to previous owners who, while seemingly well-intentioned, did have significant issues with some visitors which should not be held against the present ownership. Sure it’s not the most historically pure topic but the new (as of fall 2018) owners are undergoing an ambitious project and deserve and earn all the support they can get. The Dumas is a treasure trove of mining/Western history is highly worth a visit if you are in Butte. This is an absolutely fascinating property with decades of history. With each room and floor of the building, you will be transported to a different time (whether the turn of the 19th century, the 1940s or the 1980s) wondering about what life was like at that time. I joined the tail end of a tour by Charlee with a family with children and I heard how they cater the tour to avoid more “uncomfortable” content. David then took me on an extensive tour giving me so much of his time; both are amazing hosts to this bewildering property. They are both fantastic about creating a welcoming environment and are very giving of their time and the building. I went expecting to spend perhaps 30 minutes to an hour and stayed for three hours and only left because I had a tour at the Mining Museum (also awesome btw). Incidentally, this property is a modern archeological dig waiting to be unearthed. The brothel only actually closed in 1982 but there are obviously decades and decades of content and material waiting to be unearthed here. As I told David and Charlee repeatedly, the right historian or antique dealer could spend an amazing few months here easily. I wish I could be that person for them. So in conclusion, go here. You won’t regret it. As of August 2019, there is much work to be done, but with each weekend the David and Charlee Prince are able to put into it, I’m sure it’s fascinating history will shine...
Read moreI am just still reeling from today's (July 8th 2023) tour of the Dumas Brothel, I contacted Ted Ackerman yesterday in regards to a history tour of the Dumas and we were not disappointed, it was just Ted, my boyfriend and myself.. intimate and perfect... The Dumas has had a piece of my heart for a really long time, it is sad to see her in disrepair, I was hoping the new owners would invest in bringing this beautiful lady back to life... I could see the beauty beyond the dust... Taking down the pannled walls between the rooms on the right and turn it back into a bar/sitting room
Stabilizing the basement and floors Fixing the leaks and the foundation Putting back in the spiral stare see with ornate metal banaster upstairs with twisted metal spindles
Of this lady would shine once again if someone took the time and effort
Anyway if you need help I'm...
Read moreThe Dumas Brothel Museum was the highlight of our reunion to Butte after almost 12 years, and was just simply an amazing place and experience. Our tour guide turned out to be one of the owner's, who was a very gracious young man who is very passionate about everything they are doing to save the brothel. They were also very accommodating and allowed us to schedule a tour at 8:30pm, and on a Sunday evening no less! Then when we had to reschedule the tour an hour later than planned, they were still happy to meet us and stayed open past 11:00pm... So thank you Travis! We appreciate your help and especially all of the sacrifices you make to be there and care for the Dumas Brothel... This trip will remain with us until we meet again on our next...
