UPDATE: The manager personally emailed me back to apologize and refunded half my order which I greatly appreciated. Overall, this place has potential to be great, hopefully they can work on the food and customer service.
Original post: Terrible customer service. Bland, tasteless food. WAY OVERPRICED.
We are locals and had such high hopes for this place, so what a colossal disappointment!
When we walked in we were not greeted with a smile, but a young lady named Kaylin that seemed frustrated and overwhelmed. We tried to cut her some slack since she seemed to be the only server for the whole restaurant and we were very kind and patient with her, despite her attitude. We even gave a 25% tip when we paid up front since it seemed like she was having a bad day and we felt a little bad for her. But things quickly went south after that despite our genorsity and kindness, and it's clear Hummingbird Cafe has much room for improvement.
First, the food is just plain terrible, or average at best. We came here because the website said they source local and I was expecting great food quality, but this was nothing more than average tasteless ingredients.
Secondly, they screwed up our order as well and were not at all apologetic about it which only frustrated me.
Thirdly, service was very slow. Again, we tried to be patient but you literally just slapped roast beef on some bread and forgot ALL the toppings and that took you 30 min to make??
The pictures show it all. A hastily slapped together sandwich and a breakfast wrap. For the price of the food I certainly expected better quality. The roast beef on the sandwich was dry with crappy bread and again, they forgot all the toppings. Was someone not awake back there?
The only redeeming quality was the ambiance. I loved the hummingbird theme and some of the art work, however the bathroom was disgusting. Smelled terrible and was filthy with no...

I visited the Hummingbird Cafe last Friday, June 10th with my brother and his girlfriend. They live in Butte and know I'm Vegan and were thoughtful enough to find this place...I'm so glad they did! Coming from Los Angeles, I thought, "This place is going to have some work to do," to convince me. I would not only eat an awesome plant-based meal, but also eat my words of doubt because everything at The Hummingbird was beyond expectations!
They were very busy AND understaffed, yet we were still greeted warmly and thoroughly at the door. The one person at the front was even professional enough to give us the tip that since there were only two servers for the whole restaurant that morning, to sit closer to the front if we wanted faster service. Since, time spent together and some privacy was of greater importance, we chose to sit on the really cool, hidden back porch between buildings. We were still served almost immediately, by Aliesha (I hope I'm spelling that correctly) who was kind, professional, and pretty cool too!
My brother and his girlfriend are NOT vegan, but were still met with tons of options, as was I, so we had more difficulty settling on just one thing than finding something to meet each of our expectations! In the end, I even got a slice of their vegan chocolate cake (which was enough for the three of us actually), and managed to deceive my brother's roommate and family (who are NOT vegan) with bites of the cake!
Being raised in the South, and living in Los Angeles, The Hummingbird Cafe met and exceeded my standards and expectations! Its a chill, homey, great place to meet and eat, and I will be back for sure the next time I visit my...
Read moreI recently bounced by this amazing cafe by chance a few weeks ago.
I'm on an adventure to re-trace the route my grandpappy x5 took in the early 19th century when he travelled from NYC and eventually settled in Bedidly Boyng, Oregano. He was known for his odd style of walking (and riding) and was given the nickname 'Bouncing' Bob Stephens due to the fact that he had a pronounced rise and fall gait. I am very lucky that I have been able to take a year off my work and have this trip. In honour of 'Bouncing Bob' I am doing it on an original 1970's Spacehopper. So far I have bounced some 2500 miles in aid of my chosen charity which supports injured and retired circus performers.
Hummingbird Cafe was a great stop as we had been bouncing since 5.00am and needed a breakfast break. My support vehicle was able to park nearby which made it ideal for re-inflating the spacehopper.
I had the breakfast wrap and a large coffee plus a couple of muffins. My crew had other menu choices. The food was generously portioned and excellent quality. I thought it was delicious and fantastic value. The cafe itself is a delightful place and incredibly clean. I always visit the washrooms first in any place I plan to eat. If the washrooms are clean it usually follows that the place is good quality. These washrooms were spotless and there were some nice hand lotions available.
Hummingbird Cafe is an awesome place and I highly recommend it.
Below is a picture of me on my pre adventure training regime when I bounced the North Coast 500 route in Scotland. The other is the spacehopper I am using...
