2021 August update:
Kayak river rafting trip turned into a rescue mission.
WARNING, THERE IS NO LIFEGUARD
Swimming past the bridge posts (where railroad bridge is, the right side of shoreline) is ABSOLUTELY dangerous especially to children/young teens/weak swimmers. You may trust the shallow areas by the shoreline BUT further down the river is DEEP. Once someone is caught in a current there, it's hard to catch up to them from the shoreline. The following swimmers were in this area and needed bystander assistance. -One child had to be saved when the current took her when using a pool floatie and had to be hauled to safety by our kayak. -Another young boy's leg was wrapped and stuck in fishing line and had to be cut free. BOTH WERE IRRESPONSIBLY LEFT UNATTENDED and Both did NOT have lifejackets. These incidents occured at the SAME time.
Using floaties will give you a higher chance of being pulled downriver (quickly), if your not planning on river rafting, river cruising down the river or not a strong swimmer then I'd advise leaving pool floaties at home.
Nice river rafting from here to McHenry Recreation area (4-5 hrs) but would advise to go with others with experience and a Lifejacket. Take water (sun is blazing with minimal shade down river). Many fallen trees in river so take heed when floating down river.
$7 charge for parking, $35 Seasonal Pass for Riverbank residents only. They accept Cash and Card. Flush toilets and outdoor showers near picnic areas, 2 nonflush toilets are found along the 1 mile trail. People who bring their pets- be warned there are many irresponsible people who leave chicken bones along trail and in picnic areas. It is quite clean, but then again they are barely reopening.Dog parks are open with Covid...
Read moreWas at the Dog Park on Thursday. One of the employees notified me they close the dog park at 5:30. I left exactly at 5:30 and no one came to lock the dog park and do a check around the trail area like they usually do. Instead I get to the exit gate and find out they locked me inside.
Called the police non emergency line to see how I can get out.. I had 3 of my dogs with me and it was already dark outside at this time. Police were helpful and got a hold of the employee working at the park.
She came to the gate to open it but demanded $50 in cash before letting me out. I didn’t have any cash so I offered it via Venmo or Debit and she refused and demanded cash. She let me out as a one time courtesy after pleading with her that I didn’t have $50 on me.
Are we really endangering people who visit a park to let their dogs play so you can extort them for money after locking...
Read moreAs I first arrived I noticed that there was plenty of shade and that was nice but I also noticed many people putting their beer into soda cups and the plastic cups and I noticed the park patrol the area and not say a word of warning to any of the people . So when I saw them pull up on the gentleman that had asked me if it was ok to drink there and said as much to him it was to my dismay that park patrol would single him out I think because of his color and only his color because everyone around him was drinking and thay didn't say a word to them . I could understand if the man had ben loud or blaring music like the others had but he was sitting with his family quietly enjoying his day . Pregidus people shouldn't be able to do this to anybody and gave that man my number to go to court with him to let them know I won't stand for it ...
