Knights Ferry is good for a day hike, picnic, and overall relaxing by the river. During summer months they offer river rafting, but you can also use your own raft and float down the river. There are hiking trails that you can follow that are fairly easy to moderate at some points. The North side of the river is the most popular trail and is more worn. There is more to explore on the North trail, and good luck if you try to conquer the steep hill. The trail on the South side of the river is less traveled but there are many traveling paths to choose from. This side is more secluded and a lot more green. If you park in the (first) upper lot, it will take you directly to the South side of the river, just follow the trail on the back side of the lot to the covered bridge. This appears to be wheelchair accessible. There’s not a whole lot to see on the South side, and only a few tight areas to reach the river. There is a restroom along the North trail, but word to the wise - use the restroom at the visitor center. There are two parking lots (an upper and lower lot). The cost is $5 which is paid with a credit card. The kiosk does not accept cash. Knights Ferry has two dine in restaurants, both of which are pretty good. There’s a 50’s themed restaurant at the start of the entrance to Knights Ferry, and the Rivers Edge restaurant when you get to the bottom of the hill (take a left). Knights Ferry has bbq pits and various...

We visited Nights Ferry back October 2020 and what a fun day it was. We parked in the parking lot at the recreation area which had a kiosk for parking tickets so don't worry about needing to buy one before hand. The rec area has a cool informational building which unfortunately is closed due to Covid. It also has tables with BBQ pits near by next to the river for a great swimming experience  and I will note that the water at this time was a bit too cold. Take a walk past the informational center and you'll make it to the old flour mill turned hydroelectric station and take a look back into the past with the fun informational booths they have located around the buildings. Once you make it past that you'll come to the bridge which gave my kids the biggest smile to be walking through as they shouted "Echo"! On the other side of the bridge you'll see to the immediate left is a trail down to the side of the river but beware it is a bit steep and slippery. Continue on past the bridge and to the right is more tables and BBQ pits shaded under the trees next to the somewhat steep beach by the river(gorgeous clear water!). There is also another parking lot next to this location btw. We definitely loved visiting this historic town, just wish we could've visited the shops but they were closed because they are only open certain days...

Best place to experience California's fresh pack snow melt. Coldest flowing river of natural water available the entire year round. Plus loads of history. It's a must see location. If you like California's history and it's historical land marks then this is a great place to add another piece to the puzzle of California great history. If you decide to try it out I feel like theirs enough there to check out to entertain all ages and just about every ones going to just enjoy it their. They've got one of the few still standing wooden covered bridges. That you can you use to go check out the library which is a modern build and will be easy to recognize for most of the younger ones. Also though there is an old old old jail house with informed plaques of what we used the buildings and technology for when it was modern to the people that built it from our history and the people that contributed to it all. So much more. I will not spoil it all before you can see it all your self. Knights ferry, CA.

Check it out! Thanks to all who helped create this great place and thanks too those that have contributed to keeping this place up and available for exploring.

Thanks to any of the people who read this and has read any of the other pieces that I have covered and to all a fun adventure.

I....

Don’t skip this hidden gem on the way to Yosemite 👇
Wild lupines are popping right now, and this spot is peak spring magic. Before I drop my top Yosemite hidden gem guides, I had to feature one of my favorite pit stops. Trail Guide:
🥾 Stanislaus River Trail
📍 Knights Ferry Recreation Area
💵 $10/car (they do ticket)
⛰️ Easy – 3.2 mi out & back, 200 ft gain
🧒 Kid-friendly ♿ Not wheelchair accessible 🐕 friendly: Yes on leash 🚽: In parking lot Pro Tips:
• Morning = best light
• Lupines are tucked away (blog coming soon!)
• Wear long pants (ticks!)
• Bring water
• Historic bridge is closed but still cool up close If you love California’s wild beauty, grab my 5 Hikes for May blog (free link in bio) #KnightsFerry #HiddenGemsCalifornia #LupineSeason #YosemiteRoadTrip #CaliforniaHikes #stanislausriver #knightsferryca #yosemite #yosemitenationalpark #californiaroadtrip #californiaadventure #bayarea #bayareahiking #bayareahiker #californiawildflowers #castateparks #lupine #lupines #california #hiddengem #hiddengems #hiker #hiking #bayareablogger
