5 vendors selling produce and 35 vendors selling crafts is NOT a real farmers market. The produce WAS high quality and reasonably priced, but lacked diversity. To my mind, a farmer's market is about LOTS OF great fresh in-season PRODUCE.
I complained to the market manager about the lack of farmers at this market. Her response was that they don't allow vendors selling duplicate items. Duh?
All of the markets I've shopped at in northern California had the same in-season produce offered by multiple farmers, PLUS lots of ethnic fruits and veggies you don't find at a supermarket. You could select organic, conventional, top quality or lower priced "seconds". For people like me who are on a limited budget, I LOVED the seconds. It was a great way to eat delicious healthy foods without spending too much.
Diversity and abundant selection is what made shopping at the northern CA farmers markets great, AND it's what made me want to return to the market regularly. I sincerely hope market managers in this area will rethink their attitude about duplication and diversity so farmers markets here are about produce, not crafts. Read moreMe and my wife came on Sunday and we definitely found items to take home! We bought Farm fresh eggs and some local honey and bee pollen. They did have alot of seasonal fruits and vegetables. Some artisan crafts and trinkets. We also got some home made Dog treats for our Doberman like smoked chicken feet and more! They also had Food stand. From Tacos to Kielbasas. Dr. SWEETS had some awesome fudge Orange and Dark chocolate!! He ran out some guess what we'll be doing...
