The outdoor table service was very nice. The pretzel bite appetizer was hot and delicious.. Our server was very attentive and quick to identify empty beverage glasses and requests. However, I have been here quite a few times and order mostly the same things when I do patronize this establishment. This time my wife and I ordered different items then our usual. The presentation on the pot roast dish, my wife ordered, was nice overall but the actual piece of roast that was plated was dry, overcooked and very tough and fatty once she attempted to cut into it. We had to send it back unfortunately. Our server was quick to apologize and resolve it. I ordered the pork chop with loaded baked potato and a garden salad. The pork was a little over cooked but still tastey, while the baked potato was old, dry and cold. I mean cold to a point where nothing would melt into it; not even warm. I was of the mindset it was baked much earlier in the day and used for dinner service. Baked potatoes should be hot where the butter and cheese can melt into it nicely. That wasn't the case and our server went back to the kitchen to have it replaced. The new one was 1/2 the size and barely warm. The server then asked if it was better. I had to be honest and tell her it wasn't any different. She again apologized and offered me a different side. I declined it as I had already finished my pork and salad while my wife was waiting for her dish to be remade. I kind of lost my appetite by that point. My side salad was puiny and certainly not enough for being one of the two sides that came with the pork chop. I left hungry and has to stop for something on my way home from there. I shouldn't leave hungry when spending $20 a plate. It seems this restaurant is mostly focused on the Canyon Lake crowd, who go there mostly for the drinks and social aspect. When it opened the food was consistently hot, fresh and memorable. Now that they have been open for some time the food quality is an after thought and has seriously declined. It seems that this is pretty common with resteraunts. When they first open it is wonderful with good quality control and nothing going beyond the pass without the chef signing off. However, as time passes a degradation of quality occurs. That appears to be the case here at the Canyon Cowboy. If the owners do not do something soon, the dream they had will soon crumble into just a fun drinking establishment. Who knows, maybe that was the focus all along, a profiting bar with sub par food. I will give it some time before returning. But I will be fair and try it at least one more time, as everyone can't be judged on just one bad experience. I will report back when I do. Much of the experience was enjoyable, but the food was a complete let down. The Canyon Lake "river" crowd was fun and upbeat, but most were only drinking and not eating, taking up valuable table space for incoming diners. Might I suggest a time limit on your tables to insure you are serving your community completely? By the way, no credit offered or given for the multiple issues withnour orders. That surprised me, even though I generally decline that sort of thing. I always appreciate the offer though, as it shows their heart and intentions. Oh well, back to Texas...
Read moreOn 4/15/23 we decided to visit this restaurant for the very first time since it was one of the recommended restaurants that was listed on Murrieta talk when I asked for help finding a restaurant to celebrate and have dinner for my daughters 21st birthday.
Making reservations and choosing this restaurant was a huge mistake. We had reservations for 7pm and got seated right away. Our waitress was friendly but we can tell that she was most likely overwhelmed with other tables since she very rarely came to ours. We were able to order appetizers and drinks after about 40 minutes of waiting for someone to arrive to our table. We asked for water twice and our waitress forgot.
It was about 30-40 minutes after our appetizers that we were able to place our dinner order. After that we lost count on how long our food took to get to the table, all I know is that they sent complementary french fries for the long wait which was ridiculous. When our food arrived My daughters steak was undercooked (it was rare) but she didn't want to say anything since it was her sisters birthday celebration. My other daughters steak had a lot of fat and chewy pieces. I kept quiet and we all kept a smile on our faces since we didn't want to ruin (even more) our daughters 21st birthday dinner but it was awful! we would of had better service and food anywhere else. The drinks and appetizers was the only thing that was good. I had to stop my husband several times that night since he livid and wanted to speak to the manager. I kept telling him don't ruin it even more just keep cool.
As for the ambiance it's nice inside but when we sat down at our table there was a butter knife on the seat along with some liquid which I asked for a napkin to clean. There were also a lot of gnats and mosquitoes all around us. We kept swatting them with our napkins almost the entire time.
I'm very disappointed to have paid close to $300 for a dinner celebration that was horrible. We were celebrating our daughters 21st birthday and we let her down.
We arrived at 7pm and left at 10:10pm! 3 hours of waiting and dealing with insects. My 21 year old kept saying "it's ok don't worry at least the drinks are good" for the amount of money that we paid we should have gotten exceptional service and food. We will definitely not recommend this establishment.
The manager/owner needs to take responsibility and try and fix all the issues. we are very disappointed with this restaurant since it was recommended on social media being one of the best local places to celebrate a birthday dinner....
Read moreWhere to begin? FOOD: We attempted to order two appetizers and were told they were both out and we had to settle for a shrimp appetizer that was OK. I do not think I would have ordered it if I had my first choice. The Prairie Salad was not particularly good. The choices within the salad did not seem to mesh. The only good part of dinner was the steak. It was cooked correctly, and it was the right temperature. The grilled asparagus was good but could have used a few more pieces. Overall, the food was a five out of ten.
SERVICE: This is where the review starts. I gave this restaurant that lowest review based on the service of this restaurant. My wife and I dined Friday night, Oct. 2024,2024 at around 600pm. We finished our dinner, paid our check, and left. On the drive home (we live about 15 minutes from the restaurant) I realized I had left my visor on an empty chair at our table. We called the restaurant and spoked to the hostess who went and found my visor and said we can come pick it up tomorrow (Oct. 26) when the restaurant opens at 10am. Fast forward to Saturday morning, Oct. 26 and when I dropped by to pick up my visor; no one seemed to know anything about my lost visor. The morning host was very apologetic and could not locate my lost visor. The day manager did not seem to care about helping me find my lost visor. The day bartender recommended that I call in the afternoon when the nighttime hostess return to help locate my visor. I called around 530pm and did get a hold of the evening hostess who remembered me and my visor from the previous night. They claimed they were busy and that they would call me back when they had located my visor. I am writing this review Tuesday night Oct. 29, and I am still waiting for a...
