A cult; an illegitimate excuse for a credible university, preparing attendees for little more than a volunteer position at a Baptist church.
Bigoted and hateful, white-washed students are coerced to believe everything outside of conservative evangelicalism is from Satan. University policies place higher importance on attending church than attending classes. Even the most concrete, secular academic subjects are skewed and misconstrued to fit their narrow-minded agenda. For instance, psychology courses speculate whether old testament characters had mental illnesses, instead of researching and applying knowledge of mental illness to treat people in this millennium. Faculty and staff members lack legitimate academic credentials to teach any subject other than the Bible.
The university handbook, or 'covenant', in their words, is nothing shy of a misogynistic, sex obsessed, oppressive rule book penned by paranoid men and women who desperately want to control and mislead young adults during a time of their lives when self-exploration and expression should be encouraged. The handbook outlines 'evils' that could lead to students' dismissal from the university, such as parking in the wrong gender labeled parking lot, embracing for more than 3 seconds, or listening to music that could be played on a Top 40 radio station. Students are forced to confide in 'godly' mentors about personal struggles, in order to receive discipline for said struggles, as outlined by the student handbook. This condemning atmosphere does not allow students to develop into functioning adults, leaving students naïve, paranoid, judgmental, and sheltered.
This university, plainly, should not exist in the 21st century. Its policies are archaic, its curriculum is null of modern fact, logic, or reason, and the campus atmosphere of self-righteous facades riddled with crippling religion-induced guilt and self loathing is disgusting. Attending Cedarville University to receive a well-rounded liberal arts education is absolutely ludicrous, to the point where one would be better off foregoing university all together.
As a student who transferred from this convent to an internationally accredited research institution, I can confidently say a Cedarville education is the equivalent to no education at all. Only after I left did I realize how misinformed, unaware, ignorant, and poorly educated I was. Cedarville did not foster personal growth so much as it did religious deception, Cedarville did not encourage critical thought so much as it did blind conformity, and Cedarville did not prepare me for the future so much as it did set me 5 paces behind. Leaving this university was the most well-informed decision I ever made on a personal and professional level.
In summary, if one would like to serve hot meals at a Baptist church on Sunday afternoons, Cedarville is the school to attend. However, to receive a well-rounded education to prepare for the professional world, one should invest 4 years in a...
Read moreThis institution sucked the absolute life out of me. I was barely able to attend this college for a full year. The only positive aspect of it were some of the openminded professors, but another fellow alumnus assured me that they were all fired in a recent "purge." Not surprising.
Cedarville forces students to attend chapel services DAILY (and assures they do so by legalistically requiring they swipe their actual ID cards. Yes, sadly I am serious.) In ADDITION to the daily chapel requirement, students are forced to "prove" to the powers-that-be by stating on a weekly form, in writing, that they have participated in at least three pre-approved "spiritual formation activities," which include (but are not limited to) going to church, "spiritual mentoring" and leading church youth groups.
An adult student may not leave campus unless they prove they are staying at a household "decent" enough to have a legally married couple who live there. The student must provide the names, addresses, and contact information of the "family" they will be staying with and must provide a reason why they are staying there, and alternatively not on campus.
The vast (and I cannot emphasize the word VAST enough here) majority of students in attendance are white and upper-middle class, who generally have little-to-no variance of life experiences when compared to one another.
Any innocent question or doubt about the concept of the religion Cedarville subscribes to deems whoever the asker is to be "tempted" by the actual devil himself. Exploring other mentalities is stiflingly discouraged, as there is an entire entry course that ensures students begin their adult lives (and their higher education) with the "correct" Christian "worldview." The only solace I take after having endured this horrid experience is that many of the people there are one hundred percent sure that they are going to "heaven" after they "die." It's kind of the best thought ever.
Well, carry on, old Cedarville University. I am sure many more parents will force their children to attend you over the years in hopes that you will teach them how to get to heaven the "right"...
Read moreLinda and I were eager to visit the Campus after 23 years when her daughter attended.
So much NEW CONSTRUCTION is in-progress! Linda may recall the Student Center building may have been completed in her daughter's last year.
A new entire pedestrian-only area in the heart of all the classroom buildings has construction across, and south of the Student Center.
And, so many NEW DORMS! In my opinion, the Campus is RIPE for a street level Monorail traversing the dorms to Engineering right through the pedestrian walkway with a bridge crossing the storm overflow and valley. This Trail is home based at the Student Center. Another "Trail" line runs east to west with a lighted tunnel north of the Student Center, and going under the north/south Trail.
But, the blessing to this University is there are only male and female students as our Living God intended- each with a unique Plan to RAISE THE KINGDOM!
We decided to go inside the Student Center. The Dining Hall is expansive. The Boarding Fee can be reduced with a significant deposit to a spending account. Scholarships can be $10,000 per semester even!
Upon leaving the Center, we encountered two young ladies doing homework. Turns out, they are Psychology majors: the same as Linda received her degree in teaching.
God's blessings to all you Yellow Jackets. Pray often in groups!
