Looking for a park that has it all? 🌳 McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte is a gem with playgrounds, shaded trails, bridges, fields, a dog park, and even water + creeks to explore. Perfect for kids, families, and even cross-country runners! 🏃‍♂️🐶 #McAlpineCreekPark #CLTParks #PlaygroundAdventures #FamilyFun #ExploreCharlotte

This place is great! I watched folks give their fish that they caught away to a kid, laughter echos throughout, families grill, absolutely a treasure of a park! The diversity here only makes me smile. One of the things I adore about Charlotte is how so many cultures there are in this city, and you can see the beauty of how diverse our city is here! I love hearing different languages communicate, as one language is universal: laughter. You get plenty of that here. I actually prefer this park over Freedom Park. This park has an extremely different vibe, it’s way more laid back and personable. A true utopia in an extremely stressed out city. (It was actually quite busy on a Tuesday, however, I was cognitive to not take photos of people to respect their privacy. You can expect this park to be quite lively, with plenty of parking.)

• Lots of trails and open sports fields. There’s a dog park and pond. The creek parallels the greenway and bridges cross over the creek multiple times. Also there are picnic areas and an exercise area. • Park was built on a land fill. The tall pipes thru out the park allow gases from decomposing material beneath to exhaust. After a hard rain some of the trails are polluted by sewage over flow. The sewage system beneath the park is being rebuilt. Scheduled to be completed in 2015. • Illegal’s use the 5 fields for soccer in spring and summer. Hundreds of these folks fill the park on weekends. • Most trails are dirt and gravel; however Campbell Creek Greenway has long section that is paved. • McAlpine Creek Greenway connects to McAlpine Pond trail, Campbell Creek Greenway and Cottonwood Nature Trail that leads to James Boyce Park. Some trails inaccessible due to construction as of 2014. • Best time to go is weekdays, mornings, and afternoons. It’s a good idea to go with a friend. • Biggest concern is thoughtless dog owners who routinely allow their animals off leash outside the dog park. • Park used by schools for running events and there are concerts and special events occasionally throughout the year. • Generally this park and greenway are okay. Believe the construction may bring some...

The dog park is awesome. I take my dog here after indoor cycling. I am an introvert, and am not much into socialization. My dog is as well. She doesn’t really like to play so I normally walk her around the park like ten times. She will run with the dogs sometimes, but most of the time she likes it to be just us. There are some things I have noticed about it. It is extremely cliquey and gossipy amongst this one group that comes on a daily basis during the afternoons and evenings. They are rude, and think they own the place. They talk about other owners and their dogs. If you can deal with this elementary school playground type mentality then it is a great place to go. If you are an introvert and don’t like conversation, hang out at the bottom of the hill It is the perfect place to stay hidden...
