Maybe I should have gone here stoned. Maybe I should have downloaded the app. Hmmm…I went with an expectation and left unsatisfied. It’s cool, I’ve never been to a huge green field with so many large sculpture installations. And it falls flat. When you park and walk in it feels like someone from the city got some money and said let’s build a dog park with large sculpture installations and call it a Sculpture Fields, such an imaginative name anyway, right? So then the city gathered up as many metal sculpture artists as they could and said we are building this dog park with large sculpture installations, you want in? And all of the most unknown artists submitted their work and their oddest pieces were picked. The impressive thing is some of these artists were over 60 years old when their piece was created. Ok, is that a theme? I told my friend, it reminds me of my trip to Okinawa, where we went to see the giant chicken sculpture. It was cool but didn’t make sense. (I’ve posted pictures of the giant chicken instead of from the park. I was too confused to take any pictures at the park) This was my experience walking through the sculpture fields. My friend and I came up with a game of naming the pieces before we read the plaques. The unfortunate thing is not all the art pieces have a plaque. The other unfortunate thing is that we could not guess what any of these pieces were called, except we were close on Granite Windows And Bench#9. Honestly Granite Windows, Bench#9 and Octets were my favorite. I’m not sure why Red Highchair was called Red Alert or Bomb Shelter was named Waltz On. Anyway, you won’t be disappointed now when you go cause you’ll have an idea of what you’re getting into. Go, play, have a picnic, bring your dog, and rename the sculptures like I did. Then perhaps you’ll have a very...
Read moreThis was a garbage dump which was converted to a recreational park. Many ball fields were created, but then the location's eerie past reared its ugly head and potentially toxic components began to surface. The ball fields were removed for public safety reasons and the area was converted to a sculpture field. That part is a positive influence for an area that has had a checkered past! Artisans can help us heal and move on. Hint! Hint! School boards! Don't cut out the arts from schools. Some kids can do art, but not academics, or vocational curriculums. Remember them when budget cuts occur, because without arts this sculpture park wouldn't exist and the ugly would...

It is much longer then what you might think. You can have a good 40 to 60 minute walk here. There are tables and chairs placed periodically.
Be prepared with an umbrella for hot days, simply because the walking path is pure gravel that attracts the heat.
There is a bathroom, and they were clean. Also, there are charging ports for cellphones and stuff like that, in case you are looking to charge your phone or some device.
There is plenty of parking in this area, so that is good. We found the location and scenery rather enjoyable, and as you can see we took plenty of pictures. If you are planning on going, just skipped the pictures and go see the pieces...
