Fantastic county park. I go almost daily during the work week, to have picnic lunches, explore the trails, and get away from the crush of Chesterfield.
Contains Butterfly House and indoor carousel. Public amenities include a large covered pavilion, storm-shelter bathrooms, and a playground for children. There are beverage machines and water fountains. Plenty of waste disposal, but no recycling bins.
Historic Governor's Mansion is well kept and provides scenic photo opportunities. The garden is neglected and the peach orchard is not tended. There are some wild honeybee hives that are beautiful and fun to watch, shaded picnic areas, and well maintained trails to explore. Tons of great edible mushrooms to forage, pawpaw, berries, and squash.
The geese are spoiled rotten and are used to vehicles stopping for them. They WILL move if you slowly drive through them. Otherwise they will sleep in the road and you will wait over 30 minutes. Please stop teaching...
Read moreI live nearby several parks: I was going here way before they expanded and put in the butterfly house the carousel etc. These are all great additions to a wonderful park where you can go and take nice walks -there's plenty of shaded areas. I highly recommend this park from young to old. However it does tend to be overcrowded at times due to school bus trips and there can be a lot of people.
I walk my dogs there are and I have for many years. My only complaint is that please - everyone with dogs keep them on a leash at all times !! Because , not all dogs are friendly and we do have people that will let their dogs off the leash and let them run freely or walk without a leash and come running up to other dogs without warning : which can be dangerous.
Also I wish that they did not remove several picnic tables in the park.
It used to be a wonderful place to pack a picnic lunch and sit under the trees with...
Read moreThis park is very nice. It has rubber mulch that is NOT loose to fill your shoes. It has many mature trees to provide shade. There are at least 10 slides, all of varying degrees of difficulty. There is multiple rock-climbing walls, many odd ladders and climbing implements, a few bridges, several swings including baby swings. There are some large fake rocks, a ride on dinosaur, many shaded benches and tons of picnic tables. There are a couple of charcoal park grills. Public restrooms are directly behind playground. It looks like there are many other sites of interest nearby within a nice stroll, including an indoor carousel, The Butterfly House, historic cabins and a...
