I had general admission tickets for our family on my daughter's "butterfly birthday." Unfortunately due to the pandemic and a temporary suspension of general admission, our tickets were cancelled the night before we were to go. The Director was kind enough to email me back and forth that evening several times as I asked about the possibility of doing a tour instead. She gave me available dates and times and said she would have someone call me the next day for booking, and also said maybe they could do a virtual birthday surprise for my daughter on her birthday. The next day I got a text video with a personalized video greeting and butterfly release just for her! In addition when I booked the tour I was told the Director offered a (generous) discount due to the trouble of cancellation. That certainly was a pleasant surprise! (I've since donated the discount amount to the lab project). The tour itself was SO wonderful, very interesting and informative. There are so many butterflies and I think everyone had one land on them! A highlight was that my daughters and niece got to help release butterflies that had never yet flown and they LOVED it. I definitely recommend the tour!! An hour really was just perfect, plus it was only our group and Tad, so no close encounters with others. Then as we left they gave my daughter a sequined butterfly stuffy - another lovely surprise! I'm so, so happy with how everything turned out, and more importantly so was my daughter. (Plus, it's right by a carousel which was another fun birthday activity.) We will...
Read moreHonestly one of the most magical places I've ever been to! I loved everything about my experience today. I actually spent most of my trip to the museum at the Butterfly House. I just couldn't leave. As I finally decided to make my exit, a beautiful big blue butterfly landed on my finger and stayed there for about 20 minutes. I couldn't believe it! I can't wait to come back! I got home and immediately signed up to be a volunteer. I would spend all day EVERY DAY here if I could. It really is that beautiful of an experience!!
QUICK TIP: Parents! If you are bringing your children here for the first time, PLEASE teach them how to properly handle butterflies. They're incredibly fragile insects and their little wings break so easily. I was there for hours and watched as children were left unattended as they SWATTED at the poor butterflies in their attempt to "catch" them. BUTTERFLIES SHOULD NOT BE CAUGHT! That's how people injure them. The proper way to get one to come to you is to wait for it to land and gently get it to crawl onto your finger. Please parents, teach this to your little ones so that they don't hurt these beautiful insects. I saw way to many butterflies with broken wings due to improper handling.
Sorry for the rant. I just had to get that off of my chest. The butterflies were SO BEAUTIFUL and it hurt me to see them hurt!
Oh and the rest of the museum is great too. Lots to learn and...
Read moreThe Butterfly House was the first location we looked at for our wedding. It was at the top of our price range, but we fell in love with the venue. The gazebo area was gorgeous and the reception area decorated beautifully. The staff was just amazing for the whole day. I forgot to bring a basket for the flower girl, but they found one, made a handle, and let us use it. They helped keep everything on track, calmed my nerves as they fluffed my dress before walking down the aisle, and added extra touches here and there. I was unable able to get center pieces together in time, so they took care of it and had these beautiful butterfly themed pieces on each table, with fresh cut flowers from the garden. They helped move decorations from the ceremony to the reception as the wedding party was getting photos taken. They even found our left over flower petals from the flower girl and sprinkled them on the head table. The little touches just added extra sparkle to our big day. I never expected them to go above and beyond for my wedding. I really can't express how thankful I am for all of there help. They also signed my guestbook, which was a lovely surprise. Also, we did a butterfly release, which was simply amazing. One landed on my dress and I have the most beautiful photo of my husband and I with this butterfly. If you are looking at this venue for your wedding, I...
