Visited the Union Pier location for the first time and did not love the experience. The lady helping us (can’t remember her name for the life of me) was just very rude and seemed to be annoyed by us. I have always visited the Paw Paw location and even joined the wine club there. They’ve always been very welcoming so I felt like visiting the Union Pier location as it is the closest to me. I regretted every moment of it. They fill out there tasting sheets different and when we asked about it we were treated like children. After when she came back she was annoyed at the fact that my husband wasn’t done deciding what he wanted to taste instead of guiding him towards what he might like (which is what I expected because that is how we’ve always been treated at the Paw Paw location). We got our tastings and as always they numbered them for all of us in what order to drink them. Mine were all out of order so I had to do my best to figure out what was what. When we were done tasting and wanted to get a growler of their cider as we always do our waitress cut my husband off as he only got the words “can we possibly get” out and stated that they were done and not serving anymore. When we walked out and realized people were still being served at the bar we asked one of the guys if we could get a growler and he told us to ask our server when we explained that she told us we couldn’t get anymore he was just as shocked as we were and gladly helped us. Needless to say I am really upset with the experience we had and wish I could remember our servers name as I don’t think she is in the correct working industry for herself and attitude. And with being a wine club member I am even more upset. I feel like she pick and choose who the would like to be nice to and I noticed the same girl not being nice to a lot of the younger generations that were there at the same time. I will be giving this location another shot while crossing my fingers the...

I called Chris at the Union Pier store to get a recommendation for a sizable wine purchase for a wedding, and he advised me on some choices. Not knowing anything about wine I wrote down his recommendation, and 2 weeks later purchased 6 cases of wine. When speaking with Chris I asked if we could return the unopened wine that wasn't used at the wedding and he assured me that I could.
After the wedding was over (2 days after I purchased over $700 in wine) I went to return the wine and was advised very rudely that "We do not re-buy wine", I told the ladies that were working that I had been told by Chris that I could return the unused wine after the wedding but they insisted they weren't taking any wine back, and even implied that I was making my conversation with Chris up.
I called Chris that Monday and he remembered speaking with me and I reminded him what he said and he never denied saying it, and said that he would call the winery to see if they could take back the wine and call me back.
3 days later when I still hadn't heard from Chris I called back and he said there was nothing he could do and further hardened his stance and denied he had told me they could take back the wine. I then asked to speak to the manager and a woman named Sherry got on the phone who was incredibly rude and even hung up on me.
Needless to say, buyer beware at St Julian, I wouldn't really trust anything these people tell you, either about recommendations or anything else for...
Read moreI recently enjoyed a Sunday afternoon at St Julian winery. I enjoyed the camaraderie of the gentleman hosting the wine tasting and graciously putting up with my friend changing her mind constantly on what she was going to taste. The place was packed, get the service was attentive, humorous, relaxed and extremely enjoyable. The store was filled with tons of goodies to buy to take home to fill one's pantry or to create gifts for cherished friends. There was seating outdoors that was comfortable and plentiful. There was live music playing that was also a pleasant addition to the entire goings on and made the atmosphere more festive. The establishment is extremely well run. The wine is very good. It's fun tasting so many different varieties. For me I started with my favorite and I too changed my mind, after sampling several different things ended with my favorite which was also my first. It's a great way to spend some time with friends, in a casual environment, where you can hear yourself think and easily talk among your guests. You can move closer to the music and enjoy the entertainment. Or shop till you drop. This is a great addition to the Michigan City area and is a must stop for both visitors and locals. They also have a membership that offers great deals. Might make a good gift for someone as well. I highly recommend this, I do not believe you'll be...
