Not terrible but not great. I guess for the price, it might be what one would expect. First, let me say the host is very kind and helped us find places to go while we waited for our cabin to be cleaned as we had arrived earlier than expected. The location was close to the Whistle Stop Grocery to grab snacks and breakfast, as well as beaches and a few other restaurants and antique shops. It is a very quiet and peaceful setting, and the cottage (The Wren) was very cute and mostly very clean. There is a community (not private) fire pit, volleyball/ badminton net, and bikes free to use, although we had so much rain we weren’t able to take advantage of any of the amenities. The wooded setting is lovely, but it was too muddy to enjoy the trails. |Regarding the accommodations, the beds are definitely not soft and the pillows really need to be replaced. We did not sleep well at all. We ended up checking out a day early and going to a hotel, and I was extra appreciative of the comfortable bed and pillows there. | The Wren is a very cute little cottage, and it was clean except when I dropped something on the floor in the bedroom I noticed all the dust bunnies and some cobwebs that needed to be swept under the bed. The bedding was old and stained and torn, as well. |The bathroom was very nice, good rainfall shower head and good water pressure. Towels were not great, but ok. |Satellite TV and wifi were available. The AC kept the temperature comfortably cool, and the gas fireplace was nice one very cool evening. |All in all, I would rate the place 3 stars. They just need to get comfortable beds and pillows and maybe stock the cabins with a welcome package, clean under the bed, provide new, clean and comfortable bedding, linens and towels as well as some samples of the local handmade soaps for the bathroom; perhaps, some local specialties I saw in the grocery store (locally-made foods and coffee). It really is the details that make all the difference. I would...
Read moreMy family and I rented the dove this past Labor Day weekend. While I really wanted to love this place I have mixed feelings. The property is old….even though you can tell the owners go to great lengths to upkeep the property you can see the age everywhere. The beds were hard and sofa/ chairs were uncomfortable. There was no table that my family could eat at in the one bedroom cabin, only a bar with bar stools. As a mother of a toddler this was less the ideal. The cookware (pots and pans) had burnt on residue from age and many uses. As a side note My cabin didn’t have any air conditioning while my mothers and sisters larger cabins did. They did have one window unit In the bedroom that at least provided a comfortable sleeping area on the warmer nights. Lastly my coffee maker had a mind of its own and worked some days and not others. on a positive note they did provide coffee, cream, sugar and tea. ||||after these small complaints the rest of our stay was amazing. The owners are overly friendly and very attentive. The cabin while old and showing its age was very clean and all linens and towels were provided. the hot tub was amazing and everything was clean. We also enjoyed the set up of the cabins surrounding the large Central Park area. My family and I rented several of the cabins so we were able to let the little ones run. The bikes that were supplied as well as the sand box was a nice touch. We also enjoyed the large fire pit in the center of the cabins ( the owner also supplied the fire wood) and my son loved to walk on the walking paths through the woods. You also can’t go wrong with the location as it is close to so much! Once it was all said and done we had a very nice get away and a very reasonable price. I believe the age of the property can be overlooked if you know what to expect when renting them and they are very...
Read moreMy wife and I stayed in the Robin in Aug 2024. We found the unit and grounds quiet, relaxing, and the perfect getaway for us. We did not anticipate liking it as much as we did, and we definitely plan to return. The hot tub on the screened back porch was a nice extra, and we used it quite a bit. The overall space is just fine for two people, and we also had our daughter and her fiance for 2 of the nights, and everyone had plenty of room.||Looking at some of the random critiques from other reviews...yes, the bed mattresses are very firm, but that's just the way my wife and I prefer them. We slept wonderfully. And yes, the units might "show their age" a bit, but they're impeccably maintained and Chuck is a responsive and friendly host. When they internet simply quit one day (a provider problem, not the resort's) Chuck was quick to offer an alternate network so that his guests could stay connected.||My (very) small nits are that the kitchen could perhaps use a few extras (e.g., aluminum foil would be nice), and, word or warning, there are no toiletries offered for the shower beyond soap. But these were extremely minor to us.||The area itself is interesting. We'd recommend the Red Arrow Roadhouse for dinner, and the town of New Buffalo offers a nice "touristy" destination with a main street of boutiquelike shops that runs down to a gorgeous beach right on Lake Michigan.||As mentioned, we...
