I really shouldn't be giving a holocaust museum an adequate review but my experience was less than ideal, beginning with the person at the front desk who weirdly said "Enjoy" after taking my payment. I thought there would be more artifacts displayed rather than photos with captions. The slides where you had to read the text advanced way too fast; I had to wait for the slides to come around again to read them, and then gave up trying. The audio for the 4 videos could not be heard. The exhibit about the children of the Holocaust was blocked by carts, and my experience was interrupted by what seemed to be student volunteers moving carts around me and talking. There were no docents to guide me. I didn't know there was a children's garden until I just read other reviews.    Read moreThe staff at the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center work very hard. They are dedicated to helping people learn more about the Holocaust and what led to the Holocaust happening. They're also very dedicated to helping people become more aware of how intolerance, hatred, and bias still exist, and how people can try to help decrease the amount of intolerance, hatred, and bias there is and help protect people from getting hurt. The staff at the center are very knowledgable about about those things, and the staff are also very kind! Also, I think it's nice that information about the lives of people who live or lived locally on Long Island and survived and/or lived during the Holocaust is included...
Read moreI didn't go inside the building, but the children's garden/ the garden itself was phenomenal. Highly recommend to anyone and everyone. Beyond touching quotes (and small bios) from some phenomenal humans that were perished. All the senses are attuned here. In love with the garden, can stay here all day. So much nature and life. So many butterflies and rabbits, highly recommend.
Met some of the staff here, who are dedicated to helping people learn more about the Holocaust and what led to the Holocaust. The staff at the center are very knowledgable.
