The Welwyn Preserve County Park is a gorgeous public nature reserve located in Glen Cove, New York.
Welwyn Preserve (formerly the Welwyn Estate) once served as the estate of Harold Irving Pratt, an American industrialist, philanthropist and member of the prominent and wealthy Pratt Family.
In April Of 2021, my wife and I visited the Welwyn Preserve and explore the site’s extensive woodland area and viewed the coast facing the Long Island Sound.
The major attraction of Welwyn Preserve and where my wife and I also visited and toured is the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center Of Nassau County.
The Holocaust Memorial & Tolerance Center Of Nassau County is an exceptional institution that honors the memory and experience of the Jewish people during the Holocaust, one of the darkest and most troubling chapter in human history.
Both my wife and I very much enjoyed our time at the center. We definitely recommend that everyone visit this institution and also take the time roam and explore the incredible woodlands of...
Read moreThis is a beautiful place for which we who live there pay plenty of taxes. However, it is extremely poorly maintained by the city. There are not enough garbage bins and and the trash is enormous and spread all over. The “visitors” (read not the ones who pay taxes to the city) have turned the trails next to the beach to a toilet with excrement deposited directly on these. Be ware if you risk to venture there; you may need a new pair of shoes after you step on one of these “mines”! Toilet paper, diapers, sanitary napkins, decomposed food, etc. abound! What a shame! Constructive suggestions?: Bring more garbage bins. Have these emptied every day. Bring at least 1 and yet better 2 bio-toilets. Institute fines for littering and enforce these strictly. If needed, restrict to use only by citizens of Glen Cove. Just like the beaches. By permit and even better by ticket. The proceeds can be used for cleaning and whatever...
Read moreWelwyn preserve was a great location! It was a little confusing to find because Google Maps gave us a different address/location. We did a search en route on Google and that gave us the correct address. Once we arrived, there was a narrow road through a gate that's unmarked as to where you should park. The road deadends at a beautiful building and it's a short walk to the dirt trails which meander through the lush greenery and past a pond. You can choose the paved road down to the beach if you dont want to hike. If you choose the trails remember that they aren't marked, so keep track of your direction. We took the trails but we got turned around. Once we got our bearings, we back tracked and went to the beach to catch sunset. It was beautiful and chilly! After our visit to the beach we came back up on the paved road because it was dark. Make sure you know before you go so you're prepared for the...
