Red Roof Inn – Norwich, NY Review

This Red Roof Inn is the latest facelift on a decades-old Norwich establishment, but don’t expect much beyond the basics. It’s a no-frills stay—no in-house bar, no restaurant—just a place to sleep. One of the more peculiar choices is a former hallway downstairs, now repurposed into a "dining area," as if a long table with 12 chairs magically transforms a narrow corridor into a banquet hall. A+ for imagination, I suppose.

The room itself carried remnants of the past, including a smoke detector that looked straight out of the '70s—possibly from when my aunt was head of housekeeping back when this was the Treadway Hotel and later a Howard Johnson’s. The bathroom fan was a nightmare, screeching loud enough to make you question if it was powered by a tortured spirit.

That said, the beds were surprisingly comfortable, and the extra comforters were a nice touch. But at $112 per night, it's an overpriced stay in a town that feels like it was left in the hands of drunken city planners for the last 30 years. Norwich has seen better days—decades ago. If you're passing through, this place will do in a pinch, but for the price, you might want to keep driving.
