This is a park that had an incredible depth to it when I was a kid. It was majestic and vast and unique. Some changes have been made in recent years that detract some of its beauty; the elimination of the pond that the ducks loved, my favorite stone encased water fountain that seemed to spew with life--the play area where the sandbox was had its own mystical nature and these special things are indeed gone. In spite of all that, the park still has the same soul and is just waiting to invigorate whose ever turn it is next. Although I felt like a relic here, it's still special and perhaps because these things affected me so deeply is why.

Brookdale Park is a county park and there are concerts and fireworks in the summer. We go to the fireworks every year and they are so well done with live music and food trucks. Great family picnic atmosphere. The park itself was designed by the Olmsted Brothers that did Central Park in NYC. There are different sections: a walking track and exercise stations, soccer field, fenced in play park, dog park, and flower garden, as well as an open grass area. On weekends there is usually an ice cream truck by the play park.

The park’s numerous amenities and features cater to most visitors’s interests. Plentiful parking options across the park along the circle drive and in central parking near athletic field. My favorite feature of the park was well-cared compact rose garden. Paved and unpaved trails in wooded area of the park are nice for walking. You can get some mileage by walking the perimeter of the park. Not surprisingly, I have found out after the visit that its original design was done by Olmsted Brothers firm.

This is a very large park with many places to park that are close to what you want to do. For instance there is a large track and field to walk around with a soccer field in the middle and you can park on the side near the stairs, or you can park on the other side which is closer to the baseball fields.

There's also a dog park here that has a fenced-in area for larger dogs as well as a separate fenced-in area for the smaller dogs. This dog park is close to the beautiful 🌹 Rose garden.

The only issue with this park, is that a few years ago they changed it so that you can only drive through, meaning when you drive in one entrance, you canv only drive around half the park. If you want to drive around the other side, you must exit the park and then come back in. And I'm not sure if you call legallymake a u-turn at the exit to come right back into the park.

There one was a small pond here, to those who remember it, however it's not here anymore, although after a heavy rainstorm that area itself to be quite and muddy and not to be walked.

There is a children's playground here that is very nice and in the summer months and ice cream truck does appear in parking lot above oh, so you might want to bring some cash.

If you enjoy walking in a park this is definitely a good choice as there are many pathways to walk I can take you on a flat plane or up-and-down some smaller hills.

There are a lot of large trees here too and after some of the heavy storms we've had they do lose branches or have even come, and when that happens they usually shut the park down.

When leaving the park for the day, on the side closest to Broad Street there is Rita's icees and Holsteins ice cream. If you leave by The Grove Street exit you can go to Applegates ice cream which is a little further...

Brookdale park is one of the nicest parks in the state of NJ. With plentiful walking paths, a dog park - separated for large and small dogs, an enormous play area for kids - complete with a 'spider web' climbing tower and old time merry-go-round, plenty of space to sit in the sun and/or to picnic, and much more, including a full size football field with running track. Brookdale Park is half in Bloomfield and half in Montclair and is a wonderful place to go to relax and unwind, or to wind-up and play. There are also numerous events that take place throughout the year on site such as crafts shows and concerts, there's something for everyone. Always ample parking in either the lots or on the street as well. My family, my dog and I...
