Stamna Taverna — Restaurant in Bloomfield

A few months ago. The food was good. I took my nephew because he likes Greek food. I was trying to show him around town since he's from out of state. But we got such bad bad service. The waiter act as if he didn't want us there. It was the middle of the day, only 2 other people there. He didn't ask us if we wanted something to drink. I had to ask him for water. When I asked him for napkins he rolled his eyes as if it was a big stretch for him to go to the next table where he was folding cloth napkins. Food was good but the meat was dry. Flavor was there though. He waited on other people he seemed to know and was friendly to them but towards us... -_- .... Even my young nephew felt uneasy. It was such an embarassement because I talked this place up as the best and it's just as good as the place he go to back at home and I fell flat on my face with all my gloating. The waiter was tentivery to other customers. We were polite, said thank you, please, well dressed, no profanity, not loud. I don't know why he treated us the way he did. I had to get up and ask to pay for the food. He sat the ticket on the side where my nephew was which he is a child and can't pay. Why wouldn't you just hand it to me in my hand? When I stood back up to pay I didn't acknowledge him and went straight to the guy behind the counter who polite (thank God) I left without giving a tip. First time visiting this place, and it was an absolute disaster. My boyfriend made a reservation (around 4:30 PM), we showed up on time, and they didn’t even have our name down. The hostess walked away without telling us anything — we had to go after her just to get an explanation. Turns out, they “forgot” to write the phone reservation down since we didnt do it online. We were told to wait 10–15 minutes… it ended up being nearly 30, with no apology, no updates, no accountability.

But here’s the part that made this place completely unacceptable: One of the staff recognized my boyfriend and messaged his family — spreading rumors about me (someone they’ve never met!) and describing me as “some exotic dancer.” That’s right — not only did they deliver horrible customer service, but their staff apparently thinks it’s okay to gossip about customers’ personal lives and stir up family drama outside of work.

I don’t care how good the food is — a restaurant that’s negligent, unprofessional, and disrespectful to paying customers doesn’t deserve my business. I will never return and wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone who expects basic respect or professionalism.

Great experience! We really enjoyed just about every part of the restaurant. As you can see we ordered several items. They bring you a crispy bread with olive oil and oregano when you sit down. It was very good and you can tell they use quality oil. We started with the spicy feta dip and the cheese balls. Both we very tasty! Pita comes out hot and almost crispy. For entrées we got the pork gyro platter and the stuffed peppers (& tomato). The platter was very filling and delicious. The server (Joe) recommended the pork. He told us that in Greece pork gyros are more common and lamb is less common. It was interesting so I gave it a try and my God. It was fire! Perfect pieces of salty, crispy pork. I made little gyro sandwiches and loved them! The stuffed pepper was different and good. Again you can tell all the ingredients are fresh and quality. Service was very good, no complaints. Price was it's a steal. I don't usually say this, but I would have thought the bill would have been at least $20 dollars more expensive. Also there is parking in the back it appears, I didn't know this and ended up parking around the corner. Would absolutely recommend you give this place a try, I know we will be back!
