I had been waiting 20 years to visit the museum. Passing through the town from time to time I had just never been able to fit it into my schedule, but was able to visit during the local festival. I am glad I visited. When you arrive you are given a sheet with a small blurb about each room. The information is not very detailed, but when we visited there were multiple docents dressed in period clothing who answered questions. The rooms are thoughtfully and tastefully (for the Victorian Period) presented. The library was my personal favorite. In additional to wonderful traditional bookshelves, there are two circular rotating bookshelves that really highlight the social standing of Mr. Moore. There is also a small traditional county museum in the basement that highlights historic local homes and a nice weapon collection which seemed to be centered around WWI.
When I asked a docent where Mr. Moore was buried, as Woodlawn Cemetery is nearby, I was directed to his family mausoleum that is in the park to the west of the road. It is not in the cemetery, but when standing at the mausoleum one can see the cemetery just a few feet away up the hill and through the trees. There is not much to see at the mausoleum itself because the door has frosted glass, but the setting is beautiful and the ivys growing on it make for wonderful...

Moore’s Victorian home along side his beautiful one of a kind personal libraries! It’s a stunning mansion to go through. The tour was very educational and done by a very nice woman that knows it very well.
It is said that Attorney Moore was a very good friend of Abraham Lincoln. There are many artifacts intact that you can see on the 3 floors of this beautiful home. It also includes the 1860 carriage barn and working blacksmith shop exhibit. In 1979 it was added to the Historic...
Read moreIt was a beautiful fall day at the Apple ‘n Pork Festival. This was my first time attending the festival but my friends knew where everything was so it was super easy to find everything. We shopped for awhile at the craft and flea market booths before heading to the main attraction. Food! Definitely go hungry so you can eat sweet corn, pulled pork, apple cake, corn dogs, apple cider and whatever else you can find. They even had homemade root beer. I talked to one lady in a food line who had been attending the festival for 30 years!...
