Love the trail that makes a loop around the park. Glad to see all of the work being done to the ponds. Appreciate the underpass so you don’t have to cross Uintah St. The homeless can be intimidating on the south end but it’s avoidable. The bathrooms aren’t great but they work in a pinch. This is one of my favorite city parks to run in the winter when the trails at higher elevation are icy. It’s also fun to see all of the college life, the gardens, and families being active with many different activities from playing pickleball to building snowmen and baseball games. Monument Valley is the hidden gem of the city. The park also has historical significance. It once held grazing dairy cows owned by families who resided downtown. It also housed the one and only spring, which still stands today. It ran along the train tracks so guests coming into town would deceptively feel Colorado Springs was some kind of oasis and worth the investment. It had English gardens and walkway leading straight to the Antlers Hotel so visitors could enjoy a scenic walk after traveling by railway. I’m glad downtown is embracing it and cherishing it once again. Sometimes there is live music in the summer. And another highlight to the park is its close proximity to the Old North End and Tejon St. You can park there for free and then hike/run/bike out of park taking Boulder St and then enjoy all of the amenities on Tejon like events, shopping, restaurants. It’s simply a great park and a staple to the original city development. If you like to run or bike long distances- the Monument Valley trail provides access to so many others. You can piece together more miles than you could ever run or bike. From Santa Fe to Legacy Loop to Shooks Run and Rock Island. Or north to Goose Gossage and then the Sinton Trail to Garden of the Gods. Or even the bridge over the highway to Sondermann or OCC/Manitou. You could even take it to Bear Creek and from there all of Cheyenne Mountain. The possibilities are endless. The Colorado Springs Parks and Rec really shine when it comes to giving the community connecting trail systems… and Monument Valley Park is truly at the heart of it. I wish the bridges were more beautiful, the river water was cleaner, the bathrooms were nicer, and there were less homeless people camping out on the south side but even so it’s one of my favorite places. The pros out number the cons when it comes to Monument...
Read moreIve seen this park change from the 90s until now... its quite a big park.. tennis court's, basketball, base ball field and plenty of space to get a foot ball game going.. you've got a pool i do believe they open in may and runs until about September.. playgrounds are quite huge as well. Swing sets, monkey bars and i wanna say even a mari-go-round. A track extends for a few miles along the side of the creek and is gravel great for running biking and walking.. bath rooms are located by the play ground and tennis court. The trees are so great due to the fact they're old and huge, they offer great shade and shelter from stroms. A pedestrian bridge connects it to the neighborhood just west of I25 and has an amazing panoramic view of our city and mountain's. I love this park for nostalgic reasons and also as a place to just go unwind and chill~lax. Colorado college offers some nice little scenic areas as well.. quite a few ponds.. one however has been drained most likely due to blue green algae blooms but have no fear for if you walk north for a couple of minutes you'll find lively ponds with ducks geese and other wildlife around.. great place for family, wedding and high school senior pictures. The demonstration garden across from the main entrance is an amazimg piece of art in the spring, summer amd fall seasons. Many different types of plants are cared for and grown for us all to enjoy.. please be kind and curtious to the fact that people work hard to ensure our enjoyment.. so please don't pick the flowers and also please throw your trash away.. its an all-around great park and awesome for birthday parties and many other get togethers.. once i have time ill upload some photos from the surrounding areas and let you decide for your self.. now go soak up the sun and rain and snow and have...
Read moreThe park itself is gorgeous with 5 star views. However, every thing else.... Horrible! There's a $20 Entry Fee but not a cent of it is being used to maintain the road. Our car was a 4-wheel drive, made for places like this and we still struggled on certain parts of the roads. There's no organization, so it's just cars going everywhere, no one respecting the one-way roads and accidents waiting to happen. Often, you'll see signs pointing you down a road with the words "Do not enter" on them. Why are you pointing us that way then? Anyways, we get through the loop (Can be done in 45 minutes, took us 2 hours) and then that was it. No places to hike, stop, eat lunch or walk. Nowhere to learn about the plants, birds, history or culture. It was a real shock to go from any National Park to that. We ended our trip at the Visitor Center, which actually has the best views, but a parking lot is in the way..... please, just charge us a higher fee and fix your roads! Get some organization in there, utilize the park more. As much as I love it there, I will not recommend it to anyone due to...
