I really want/ed to like this place because of how stylish it looks when you drive by in the evening. But after two visits, I have to admit I’m done. I enjoyed my eel nigiri and the eel roll. Atmosphere and service beyond bad. Our group was six and there was PLENTY of room to sit outside, but they refused to move chairs out and we don’t want to pay over $300 to sit on stools. (If the chairs are only “indoor” chairs, invest in some “outdoor” chairs. What a waste of a potentially nice space. SO, inside to unbearably loud music. The guy who said it should be marketed as a disco was right. They may or may not have turned it down when we asked, but even if they did, it was just not enough. The server was the worst I remember having anywhere in years. Where to start. We ordered drinks and some kind of sticky fried rice or something when we sat down, saying we’d like to enjoy that while we determine our order. Drinks came, but appetizers came after our main courses. Server defensively just said something like “oh well it’s because the printer is broken” 😳??? Getting our order together I asked for a piece of my paper and pencil to organize. She said no and acted like it was the dumbest request she ever heard that of course SHE would keep it organized. And yes, two people ordered the same roll, when we would have enjoyed variety. And of course they couldn’t hear each other order because of the music. Had to ask for wasabi a few times before we got it. “She forgot”. She (or someone) started to clear our big platter while it still had two pieces on it 🤦🏻♀️. And finally after we were done, our friend who ordered a grilled fish (made clear it wasn’t another course, that he wouldn’t be eating sushi) received his order. Shameful. Server seemed angry at us for all of her fails 🤷🏻♀️. My husband complained to someone, who, after we had all paid, asked for our credit cards back to comp the fish. Nice gesture but would have been welcome at start of payment. We just wanted to get out. Sad. As we opened with, I really want/ed to like this place. Oh. Seaweed salad...
Read moreThis is an honest review. I will state the facts of my experience first and then list pros and cons. Take the facts as you will. This was over Memorial Day weekend.
My husband and I were a few steps ahead of my in-laws (they were looking at the beautiful architecture of the El Paso club next door) and the head waitress refused to seat us unless she had all eyes on everyone in our party. We explained that the rest of our party was a few feet away but she stated that it was the restaurants policy. Mind you we got there 10 min after they opened and there were PLENTY of tables open and no line behind us. This also happened to parties after us. They do not take reservations My husband wanted to order the crispy rice dish (6 sushi size pieces of fish over rice - 2tuna-2salmon -2scallop) he detests scallops and asked if he could change the scallops for either tuna or salmon. We were told the chefs do not make accommodations to their dishes. My husband and I’s hot dishes came out first. We respectfully waited about 8ish min before my in-laws were served. We asked why everything hadn’t come out together. The waitress says that they serve whatever comes out of the kitchen first….we got the edamame as an appetizer and it arrived after our main meal… which we thought was odd They do not serve dessert. No dessert menu. They charge the customer 3% credit card processing fee.
Pros: Very Instagram-able. Beautiful decor. The tables were wood and stone. The bar was perfectly lit with plants surrounding the alcohol. Straight out of a magazine. Food was spectacular and every dish was picture worthy and delicious.
Cons: Every plate is $15+ and portions are VERY small. We ordered 4 main dishes. 2 pork buns (only meat no pickled veggies or herbs) Edamame. And a sushi roll to split for the table. I’m still in a bit of shock. I’ve never been to a restaurant that doesn’t at least serve some kind of sweet item post meal. Even a $10 cookie would have sufficed.
Idk about y’all but I have to be in a special mood to pay $35+ per person (no alcohol) and still go home hungry in...
Read moreMe and my wife are from the east coast, so sushi was something we learned to forget about along with bagels and proper sandwiches.
This however was my birthday week, and we really wanted to sneak a date in while we had the chance. I am SO glad we chose to check out sushi row last night! All five our our senses were absolutely treated. Everything was a pleasure to see, touch, taste, smell, and hear.
The space is beautifully thought out, we were quite comfortable at our bar seat near the opening to the patio on a pretty hot and humid day. Music at the perfect social dinner volume, plenty of nostalgia and new on the playlist.
The use of black, gold, and the buildings own red brick come together beautifully. Everything from the leather bound menu to the mise was a treat to touch and feel, I loved the stone side plates and gold cups for your soy sauce.
The moment our appetizers started arriving, we knew we were in the right place. We started with Toro Tartare and some Pork Belly Bao Buns, followed by a spread of the house rolls. My favorite was the Rocco Roll with the seared tuna on top. The fish ratio in the rolls were awesome! Every ingredient felt like it was in it’s peak condition. We really took our time savoring the beautiful fish while we enjoyed our cocktails. LOVED the Matcharita!
From nuts to soup, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. For a pretty new place, we felt our service and experience were ironclad. They really seem to be pushing for excellence and achieving it. The owners even made sure we were enjoying ourselves! Such nice, fun people! They look like they work hard too.
Also our bartender Kyrie was superb and we really enjoyed her! We will be back very soon! No more eating sushi...
