I enjoyed the art exhibits a lot. but the staff was not very pleasant at all. We walked in, I had asked for information on a specific exhibit I chose to write a school paper about, and they didn’t have any supplementary info which was fine but the desk staff was also a little dismissive about all of my questions. I thought nothing of it.
I do want to preface this next bit with, I am newer to the fine art world and this was only my second time ever in a fine art center.
We walked over to the theater area. I thought maybe it was another exhibit area, or live exhibit or something. I saw no signs, nothing that indicated anyplace I should not go or enter. I saw no signs indicating what was even going on in there. There was an employee on her computer at a table next to the television, and when my friend went to crack open a door to see, she proceeded to reem us out forcefully saying, “you cannot go in there, it’s a live paid show that you just disrupted” made it seem like we were absolutely in the wrong, when it was just an honest mistake. I proceeded to apologize, and she carried on about how disruptive we were and chastised us for probably about 30 seconds, even though I was just trying to walk away because she made me VERY uncomfortable. When, we just didn’t know. She told us “I am sitting here, to keep people from disrupting the show” even though just a couple minutes before, she was in a completely other room with us. She really wasn’t doing a great job if that’s what she was trying to do. She had plenty of time to say something before we even cracked opened the door. It was a teaching opportunity to tell us how its works at their facility, and instead the employee chastised us and made us feel really guilty, and left a super bad taste about the whole experience, which is very...
Read moreI purchased 3 tickets for the front row center section for opening night of Dial M for Murder at least a month in advance. When we arrived for the show we were not allowed in because the tickets had been "exchanged". The box office said our seats were moved to row C in the far left section because the set obstructed the view of the play from our purchased seats. However, during the play other people sat in our front row seats and there was no detectable obstruction of the view at all. From our far left seats, however, the view was obstructed repeatedly throughout the play. It appears that someone in the box office gave our front row seats to friends and moved us to whatever seats were available at the time. A gentleman wearing a gold sequined jacket in the box office plainly just lied by saying the view was obstructed. Otherwise, why were other people sitting in our purchased seats? I have purchased similar seats for shows coming in December and May. I want and fully expect to receive the seats I paid for at the shows. I am extremely disappointed in the lack integrity at a theatre I have loved and supported for over 25 years, and I hope they will correct this situation. Except for this problem with the box office, the play was excellent and would receive a 5...
Read moreDon't get me wrong, I love the fine arts center, and I've loved all the efforts and opportunities they make available for learning programs and students, but I was disheartened by the contempt from one of their older tour guides. At the time, the Fine Arts center had a Hispanic exhibition displaying Mexican farmers working in a field. The guide felt the need to express her unwanted political feelings, and jokingly explained how, " these Mexicans look illegal to me, and I would bet when the cops come, they'll start running because they don't have their green cards." It made everyone on the tour uncomfortable when we had come to appreciate art from different walks of life. It was uncalled for, and disrespectful to the artists intentions. I don't think someone who lacks the ability to think critically, or make sound judgement over what's appropriate to say out loud, should have the ability to speak about different artists or...
