Earlier today [11-5-2022], I attended "Re-Imagine Transportation: A Transportation Justice Dialogue," a four-hour-long event, hosted by the Ohio Chapter of the Sierra Club and held at the recently-opened Hilltop Branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library at 511 S. Hague Ave. in the "Hilltop" neighborhood of Columbus.
I had never before attended an event at the Hilltop branch of the library though I had been planning to attend two events at that branch earlier this year [January 2022 and March 2022] but had not actually been able to attend those events.
The first of the two events earlier this year at the Hilltop branch had been changed [because of COVID-19] to a "Zoom-only" event after initially having been scheduled as an "in person" event; the second of the two events at that branch had been canceled because of COVID-19 and has not been rescheduled as far as I am aware.
It had been great to be able to actually visit the Hilltop branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library earlier today. "Google Maps Street View" makes it appear that the new building that houses that branch had opened during September 2021 which means that the closed-and-then-reopened branch has been open for only slightly longer than one year.
There is far more space in the new building than I am certain that the previous building had had. I joked with the person at the reception desk, when first arriving, that the lobby is so large that "they would be able to have square dancing in there."
Our meeting room had been four times larger than most meeting rooms at most other library branches [with the one obvious exception of one of the meeting rooms the main branch in downtown Columbus] so our very-large event had easily been able to be accommodated there. There are many "side rooms" of various configurations at that branch that I am certain will fill the needs of most customers.
In spite of the fact that today's meeting had been about the topic of "transportation" [which could lead many to believe that I had traveled there by public transportation], I actually traveled there via Uber because I had been able to travel there in 15 minutes rather than in 1½ hours via two COTA [Central Ohio Transit Authority] buses.
My Uber driver told me that he had previously worked for the Hilltop branch of the library so he of course knows exactly where that branch is located.
If you are looking for a full-service library with a lot of room, I recommend the Hilltop branch of the Columbus...
Read moreI was required to go to the library for state testing for my autistic daughter for school. I made sure that we were there when it open so that she would not upset to many people. My daughter was very nervous and was making noise. I tried to get her calm and I did for about 40 minutes. Testing was only suppose to take 1 hour. The teacher was having trouble getting up the right system for the test. The teacher got it working after 40 minutes. My daughter gets started with the test and 30 minutes in is now getting upset. My daughter started to get noisy again she was banging her head. I got between her and the wall. This person that worked there comes in to tell me that we need to take a break. The teacher and I told her we could not. She said well the cops have been called. I told her let them come I will tell them she is autistic. The lady was upset said ok and walked away. The teacher hurried up and put down any answer for the test because she was not calming down. I left the library feeling very disappointed. Went to the car and waited for the cops for an hour and they never showed up. They told me that to get us to leave. If you have a special needs child I would not recommend...
