On their Facebook profile 44 Fruit & Veg: local family owned and operated fruit stand. The Shade family first began in the fruit business on Highway 44 in the 1940's.
I am surprised no one has reviewed this fruit & vegetable stand before now. Been waiting all winter for them to open as a client told me about them last year. It's a pretty good sized 'stand' and there were two young men and an older chap, Mel, working during my visit. I took advantage of Mel's experience and asked him a lot of questions about what they sold, where it was from and the most important question, 'How in the heck do you pick a good melon?' One thing I absolutely looked forward to in moving to southern Idaho is the fresh produce. So happy the...

Read moreA touch of the way America used to be. I left my credit card at home and was handed my bag anyway and told to catch up with them the next time I was there. I had to ask the man three different ways if he was kidding. No, he was not. I took my produce home feeling like I had just stepped out of a Norman Rockwell painting. Oh, the tomatoes, corn and Snake River Cantaloupes are extraordinary. I will be back with...
