Update: mats much improved and climbing coaches were watching the kids as best they could. Thanks for the positive changes. Update: both the main gym and bouldering gym have been filthy. My clothes and skin are covered in dirt when I leave. When I showed staff they said the person that cleans has been off for illness. Apparently that means no cleaning is done. I was itching and washing black water off my skin. The employees said they would clean it before tomorrow… How can these locations be so poorly managed when they are the highest price in the area for a rock climbing gym. Update: Treadmills have been working for over two weeks without breaking! The AC in the bouldering building is great and the main building is better but not great in the afternoon. They hired a security officer! I appreciate all the efforts CRG has made to resolve our concerns. There is still a lot of work needed and I hope to continue to improve my rating based on these efforts. Thanks Update: water fountains fixed. AC better but still hot n the afternoons. Would like to know what the plans are for all the car break-ins reported at this gym.
Update: Had to reach out all the way to the chief operations officer to get a professional who wanted to help address the issues. I look forward to giving a more positive review once the issues are addressed.
Just joined about three months ago. If all you want is climbing you may be ok but I would not recommend coming here or joining until they fix the AC among other things. After having issues with the treadmills not working and telling employees multiple times, no signage was posted and still only two out of the 4 work. There is no rule about time limits or walking on there for over an hour so you won’t get to warm up for your climbs. I was finally given the general manager’s email but she was no help. For over two months I have tried to communicate with her and she ignores emails until you bug her and then doesn’t offer a resolution. I was told that because I pay for the pass to all gyms that I should go to one of the others until the repairs are done. It’s highly unprofessional behavior. On top of that I was told that the chalk is what is ruining the treadmills and that they would not ask people to use liquid chalk. Wild. I made no suggestion of that but have suggested out of order signs and moving them to one of the many rooms where they wouldn’t be covered in to much debris. Even worse, Kennesaw where I was told to go, has 8 treadmills but only two can be used. One screams at you the whole time because it needs attention and one it ok. The rest have slipped for me and my husband both and as a faster runner he was thrown from one yesterday. Great setting but that’s all. Nothing else. Very poor customer service from the staff and the manager. The water fountain and vending machine are out too in Atlanta so don’t count on anything that has moving parts to function. I have over two months before writing this review in efforts to work it out with them first and instead was treated very rudely. Went back to my old gym after a few months at Stone Summit and was able to flash a grade higher than what I was climbing when I was a member. Like I said, great setting. I hope to be able to revise my review when they fix things. Not solution...
Read moreCAR BREAK INS CONSTANTLY We are angry and frustrated to say that we do not know if we will continue to go to Central Rock, previously Stone Summit, Climbing gym. Ryan, my father, and I have been climbing there for over a decade. Ryan competed on their climbing team for years. Climbing has always been a passion of his. We and many of our friends have been very frustrated with the lack of action against repeated break-ins at Stone summit climbing gym for over a year. Tonight was the second break-in in 5 months to Ryan's truck. Our small group of friends has had five break-ins in the last year alone. It does not matter if the cars are parked in the back, gravel, or front lot.
Over the past few years, Stone summit members have been pleading with staff to increase security. There is a security patrol that is occasionally checking the parking lots but they have long gaps between times that they are present. The people who are doing this are clearly waiting until the security guard drives away knowing that they have a long gap until the next check-in. Cameras have only recently been added which is a step in the right direction, but long overdue. There are no fences surrounding the parking lot and at least initially the culprits were coming in through the woods behind the lot. There is nothing to deter them from hiding right next to the lot in those woods. Security could easily be increased by paying to have security continuously driving through the parking lots and not leaving the premises between check-ins. Security/staff could be hired to stay in the lots.
Two people that we know of have been told directly by police that they have offered to do some sort of patrolling of stone summit each night, but that this was turned down. (We are not sure if this is at the expensive of the gym or if this would be a free offering).
After this break-in we will have paid over $1,000 in repair costs for two windows and items being stolen out of the vehicle. More than the cost of it, I'm concerned about the safety of our children. Two of us have had cars broken into where glass has gotten all over the car seat for our child. We have to clean it out the best that we can and then transport our child home in a vehicle with no window in the back. Each time we tape up the windows the best we can with trash bags and tape which causes a hell of a lot of noise and let's water into the vehicle.
We would like to know what Central Rock Gym plans to do about these break-ins and we would like for them to take accountability for their lack...
Read moreThe gym is rather nice and the staff working the front end are real friendly and inviting. The individual giving our orientation was thorough and open to questions we had about the facility. Upon completion of the orientation, he notified my friend and I that we could take a belay test in order to top rope. Having been climbing before and familiar with belay techniques, we spent 15 minutes familiarizing ourselves with the figure 8 follow through. After affirming our competence, we turned the light on to notify a worker we were ready for testing. After another 5 minutes, I went up to the desk to ask for the test as no one came. A guy followed me back to the testing area with my friend and we both tied a figure 8 follow through and hooked up our ATCs and demonstrated our belay techniques. Everything leading up to this moment was okay, and had what I'm about to explain not occured, I would be writing a 5 star review. During testing, our tester nitpicked profusely and it seemed like he was out to fail us from the beginning. Bare in mind, we hooked up our equipment flawlessly however we were shown an example of an old harness not even used at the gym and asked to explain what was wrong with it and how to properly wear it. Furthermore, he made comments about how we held our hand too close to the ATC and it could result in pinching. Finally, while testing us on the belay, he failed to put any weight on his side of the rope to simulate an actual climber so it was near impossible to simulate a proper belay. Concluding the test, he told us that we missed "critical" points and that we wouldn't be able to top rope that day. We drove over an hour to get to your gym and and spent $20 just to auto belay on less challenging routes. On the sheet where we signed our names I noticed that out of the 15 names I saw on the list, everyone had passed but 1 at the top. I find it odd that everyone else was able to pass this and being experienced in belaying, we were not. I never write negative reviews but I feel as though our test wasn't fair. Without the belay certification, nearly the entire gym was cut out, and it was something we were really looking...
