I had higher expectations of our Zip Lining experience. While the views are nice, not all of the staff is friendly. Out of 3 tour guides, one stood out whom was 16, he was nice, informative and very mature for his age. The others weren't that friendly and their knowledge seemed very limited which doesn't make you feel safe AT ALL. The staff where you check in could honestly careless of you even being there which again is a huge disappointment. It costs nothing to provide good customer service. No one checks your gear to ensure it is secured or on properly, the gear is half of what most other zip line tours give you when it comes to the harness, the gloves do not have the extra leather strap for braking which other places do. Overall, I felt they needed more experienced tour guides whom didn't mind going the extra mile to ensure the zip liners felt safe and were safe. Their "safety" talk prior to the zip line event was a complete joke and they didn't even have proper techniques or explanations of what to do and what not to do. Near the end on Level 2 with 3 zips left to go, my daughter ended up getting metal fragments in her eye from one of the zip lines. She immediately felt something in her eye, at the end of the tour we asked for Eye wash or eye drops to which the tour guide didn't have anything in his medical/first aid kit, the shack said to go up front where we checked in and ask, to which I did and they informed me they don't even have a first aid kit there, only the tour guide and shack. Very frustrating! The lady said just wash it in the sink, she will be fine. My daughters eye continued to become more red, swollen and she couldn't see. She endured the pain until we could get to the eye dr early the next morning to which we found out that it was the Metal Fragments in her eye. I called to inform them of this and the young lady replied, "we check them daily, but thanks for letting us know." I asked for a Manager to whom she said "her extn was 5 off the main line" but again offered no assistance and had zero concerns of my daughter and her injury. While you sign waivers to go zip lining, there isn't a mention of eye protection. I feel they should require eye safety after the experience. I am not sure if the cables are old or if spots are over worn causing the metal to come off, however I find this unacceptable and the fact that Unicoi Zipline Park doesn't even care makes it even worse. I advised to let her Manager know that legal matters will follow (again the young lady didn't care and said ok, I will let my manager know.) I do not recommend zip lining tours here. Drive the extra mile and go elsewhere that you can have more experienced and friendly staff as well as nicer zip lines. ** Note, I have zip lined before and this experience is a complete opposite in a negative way of what I have done before. This place is a joke.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. My wife and I are in our early 60s (age wise) and did the Levels #1 through #3 zip-line courses here on Saturday afternoon, August 17, 2014, while camping at the nearby Unicoi State Park Campground. I booked the event over the phone the day prior, and the guy I talked to book it (the manager) was very frank, open and honest about what to expect with the tour. In particular, he made sure that I knew that this company did not accept cancellations for inclement weather, "the dog ate my homework", or any other excuses for "getting cold feet" since the zip-line course was quite elevated and ruggedly wooded. I took the risk and booked us for two in spite of all the caveats, and the fact that my wife is sort of fearful of heights. In spite of that, my wife (who gallantly conquered all of her vertical fears) and I REALLY had a great experience here. The pre-flight safety briefings and procedural instructions were as good as an Army Airborne Ranger course, and all of the equipment and guy wires wer super "fail-safe" to ensure it was almost impossible to suffer any kind of a fall or injury while on the course. I wanted to tack on 2 more advanced levels to the end of our pre-paid course packages when we finished the #3 course and the option was offered to us, but a late afternoon thunderstorm developed and there were too many nearby lightning strikes in the immediate area to do them safely. If I ever have the occasion to go back to the Unicoi State Park, I will definitely visit this very fun, very professional, and very SAFE adventure sports vendor again. IT...
Read moreUpdate: Upping rating to 4 stars because they took the time to respond to me and address the helmet issue. Also, I shouldn't say section 1 is boring, but it's not as exciting as the other sections. Only getting 3 stars because of section 3, otherwise would be lower! Disappointed in what we got for how much it cost. We did all 3 sections and section 1 was really boring, but you don't have an option to do the other sections without this one even though they all start from different areas on the ground. Section 1 just goes around the parking area. Section 2 was nice and what you'd expect as a first section. Section 3 was awesome! I would do that section over and over. The guides upset me in the beginning because they didn't seem to care that the helmet barely fit my husband. Very matter of factly told me that's all we have. We had to work really hard to get it fastened and he was unconformable the whole time. They should really have different sizes available in the helmets. Other than that, the guides were friendly enough, but not very exciting. 3 days earlier we went to another local ziplining company, Nacoochee Adventures, and they were so much fun and accommodating. Even though Unicoi had 3 gorgeous zips over the lake, if we go again we'd go back to the other place because it was such a better experience. I did appreciate that the guides take photos and email them to you for free. That was...
