Unicoi State Park & Lodge — Hotel in Cornelia

Hmmm, not sure I would use the word resort in the title. It's old and pretty run down. This place is packed out regardless, very popular for reunions. We arrived early but couldn't get a room until around 4, did some walking around, quick hike through one of the short trails. Went to eat around 5:30 to find out the restaurant and tavern are closed to a private event (several large reunion groups) fortunately they do offer a free shuttle to town. Parking is often times a challenge in Helen. Back to the room, ready for a shower but housekeeping forgot to leave a shower curtain, but brought 1 after a short wait. Beds are ok comfortable, air conditioning loud (really annoyingly loud) kids yelling and doors slamming several times after bed time hours. Each building of the lodge has public space but atleast in my building it's not air conditioned and dirty run down and moldy smelling. Now for the positive...all employees I've met are very nice. Hiking trails are good, free shuttle good, there is a Zipline prices range from $39.00 to $99.00. all in all I don't think I would...

They kicked out the entire lodge and all the cabins on Thanksgiving day. My family traveled over 10 hours to stay here for the Thanksgiving holiday and we're told everyone in the entire resort had to leave within 4 hours because they had plumbing problems. This was on Thanksgiving day. They made no effort to offer alternative lodging and everything in Helen was booked up because of the busy holiday weekend. Insanity. Wasted 2 days of travel, lost the opportunity to spend time with family, all because their infrastructure is poorly maintained and dilapidated. Also want to note that our barrel cabin was disgusting. Cob webs everywhere, worn out carpet, dirty floors in the bathroom. This will be my first and last visit...

Unicoi State Park is beautiful. The lodge exterior and grounds are well maintained. However, the rooms at the lodge are very dated and not kept up. The rooms are dark in order to hide the filth, dust bunnies, dirt, hair, live/dead bugs. Lavatory floor is dirty and there is no ventilation system to remove moisture. Even with cable, the television picture is poor, i.e. very grainy. Cobwebs everywhere. Mattresses are in bad shape & unsupportive. Cafeteria is buffet style.
