Currituck Banks Maritime Forest Trail Lookout — Attraction in Corolla

We somehow always end up visiting this trail when it's raining. But it's nice then because no one is usually around. The boardwalk to the lookout is really nicely done and maintained. And the offshoot trail from the boardwalk area is also a nice short hike as well. The sound view at the end is of the marsh looking out towards the sound, and it has seating. There was fog & rain when we visited - so it was atmospheric. It's a nice quick walk/hike. We usually visit in the off-season because you couldn't pay me enough to drive there in the summer with the traffic. We walked the decking through the Maritime forest to see the sunset in Corolla OBX. It was an amazing pathway that went through the forest of live oaks. It opened up to a bay that fed into the ocean. It ended up at a real nice pier with lots of seating to enjoy nature and the surrounding birds, turtles and sea otters. The sunset was amazing and so beautiful.
