Despite freezing my ass off in Gettysburg today, I just had to get out and walk the farm and around the barn. I mean, this is where it all started that fateful July 1st morning. Gotta see it. The ground was frozen as I walked over to the barn. All locked up for the season. Would have been nice to have a look inside. I was the only one there, which was very nice. One of the reasons I came when I did. Less people. Worth the freezing of my derrière.

The McPherson Farm was the site of heavy fighting during the first day of the battle of Gettysburg on July 1st 1863. The home and several outbuildings have seen lost over the years but the barn has been wonderfully preserved. The farm acted as a field hospital for the duration of the battle.

From 2019. Favorite thing was finding the etchings of the veterans over the right side window. JCT 143 PV. was Jonas C Tubbs. SMG Sept 12 1889 was Singleton M Goss. Both of the 143rd, and both here for the dedication of the monument on September 11, 1889

We did the driving tour! It was absolutely amazing but I can't wait to go back when it's a regular day. We decided to go on Memorial Day so there was a parade in town and it was completely crawling with people. We went early but a regular day will be magnificent to be able to get out and walk to some of the...
