Cumming Recreation & Parks Department — Attraction in Cumming

The facilities are great. The reason for the one star is due to management inefficiency. If you wish to rent a pavilion, it cannot be done online. Instead, you must go to their office during office hours (8:30a-4:30p). BUT....Not only do you need to go into the office physically, there is only one person in the entire staff who can help you. If she’s at lunch, at an appointment, teaching a class, out of the office, or on a break, you will need to wait until she happens to become available. Literally none of the other living, breathing office staff can assist you. And because you can only make the reservation IN PERSON you cannot pre-fill out the application or pre-pay to later be confirmed over the phone or anything like that. You basically need to keep coming in the office and hope you’re lucky enough to snag her when she’s available.

The office has been open for a few years now. This type of setup (where one person appoints themselves in charge of a section and does not allow/trust other employees to share in the responsibilities) is something I’d expect of a new office; not one that has been around for as long as...

Great playground for kids. My son is almost 18 months, and he really enjoys the swings and the 2-5 year old playground. The artificial turf covering the play area is nice and cushioned, but there are some places that are uneven, and caused several children to fall while I was visiting. I saw one family whose children weren't wearing shoes, so that could be another benefit of the turf. Several areas of the play sets are covered by shade structures, which is very nice to have in the summer. There's also a large, covered pavilion with picnic tables where my son sat down to rest and get some water. I went around 9:00 a.m. on a Saturday, and it wasn't busy, unlike Fowler park...
