I took my two kids (ages 8 and 10) to the ICR Discovery Center in Dallas last weekend, hoping for a fun, hands-on science experience. While the museum has some interesting exhibits, it fell short of our expectations for a kid-friendly outing and felt more like a classroom lecture than an interactive adventure.
The facility is clean and modern, with a professional setup. The animatronic dinosaurs and planetarium were highlights—my kids enjoyed the T-Rex and the "Secret Ocean" show, which was visually engaging. The staff were polite and knowledgeable, clearly passionate about the creationist perspective, and they offered some live science talks that were informative for adults. The center’s focus on blending science with biblical teachings is clear, and the displays, like the Allosaurus replica and human anatomy exhibit, are well-designed for presenting their viewpoint.
However, the interactive elements for kids were underwhelming. Most exhibits rely heavily on reading lengthy text panels or watching videos on touchscreens, which felt like a school lesson rather than a museum adventure. My kids got bored quickly, as there weren’t enough hands-on activities to keep them engaged. For example, the “current research” table was more about static information than something kids could play with or explore. The planetarium was a hit, but it’s a sit-and-watch experience, not interactive. I expected more activities like experiments, puzzles, or physical challenges to make the science come alive, especially for younger visitors.
There was also a small incident that didn’t help. One of the interactive screens my daughter was using froze up, and it took about 10 minutes for a staff member to notice and reset it. It wasn’t a huge deal, but it frustrated her, and she lost interest afterward. The staff apologized, but there wasn’t much else for her to do while we waited.
The Discovery Store had some cool science kits and books, but you need to pay admission to access it, which felt inconvenient. The lack of a proper café (just vending machines) meant we had to leave to grab lunch, and the parking lot’s odd layout made the walk back to the entrance a bit of a hassle in the heat.
Overall, the ICR Discovery Center is fine if you’re looking for an educational experience with a strong creationist lens, but it’s not the most exciting spot for kids expecting a fun, interactive museum. It’s better suited for older kids or adults who enjoy reading and learning in a structured, lesson-like format. We might return for a specific event, but I’d recommend other Dallas museums for a more engaging...
Read moreExceeded my expectations. I wasn't expecting a lot as we'd already visited the Creation Museuem, and although this was a much smaller scale, it didn't disappoint. I've been a bible believing chrisitian whose studied Genesis multiple times in my almost 50 years, & even I learned new things that I'd never been taught or thought of before. As far as the review calling this the "scientology" side of christianity, that's nonsense from someone who believes christianity is a religion and doesn't truly understand the gospel. And for the woman saying she was disapppinted that there was no portrayal on people with color...I can undertsand that...although everything was biblically spot on, I do disagree with portraying Adam and Eve or any other ppl in bible times with blonde hair & blue eyes....but also sounds like she missed the first part of the exhibit where a famous black scientist was recognized & his picture hung on the wall (I think it was George Washington Carver?) The entrance prices are very reasonable, the staff was kind & helpful, the planetarium was a nice touch, the gift shop has a broad selection with fair prices, and even the sinks in the bathroom were a creative reflection of the layers of the earth. The only thing I'd like to see more of was at the very end of the exhibit where it talks about Jesus and the cross. Everything here explains creation very well from the planetarium to the exhibit hall to the gift shop to the bathrooms, and even debunks evolution very well and great explanations why. But very little about how to have a relationship with the Creator. I see why ppl leaving reviews seem to be confused and "can't get on board" with creation...if I could add anything to the exhibit, it would be a movie or something at the end that ties it all together and really takes the time to point ppl to the creator. The short reel about Jesus on the cross was enough for believers, but IMO wasn't enough to tie everything together for the unbeliever. Needs a more interactive "theater" like the Ice Age theater or ark exhibit to bring Jesus to life at the end of...
Read moreBIBLICAL WHITEWASHING If you are considering visiting this place with your children, You’ll enjoy it if… You lie to your children about Satan Clause, I mean Santa Clause. You believe that white people are superior to any other race. You believe that every person in the Bible are white. You don’t have more than 3 good friends that are of another race other than white. You really don’t know scripture. Have fun! Now for everyone else…As a conservative believer, I was excited to visit this place. However, it’s really interesting that they are trying to debunk theories of science but their biblical theories are inaccurate as well. You cannot prove lies with lies. Their claims are completely whitewashed. First, George Washington Carver was a man of color. But they have a picture of him that has been lightened? Second, I had no idea that God created a white man and woman from dirt! That video was hilarious!! Which brings me to my favorite subject, Yeshua. I know it’s brings each of my white fellow brothers and sisters comfort and superiority, to believe & make others believe that Jesus was a white man like Leonardo da Vinci painting, BUT I hate to break it you, God in human form WAS NOT A WHITE MAN! I repeat, 📣GOD IN HUMAN FORM WAS NOT A WHITE MAN!! Abraham, NOT WHITE. Moses, NOT WHITE. David, NOT WHITE. Noah, NOT WHITE. Joseph, NOT WHITE. Only in America do we teach our children that everyone in the bible are white. BUT, I digress. Learn scripture for yourself and pray for truth. Don’t be deceived by false teachings and false idols. Teach your children truth so that they don’t grow up believing the lies of so many generations. Human history is not one color. Give OUR God more credit than that ICR...
