(Bakery lady is hella rude and doesn't like washing her hands.)
This place has great products from Asia and all, 4 stars. But tonight, I had a bad experience there, negative 5 stars. So there I was trying to buy a cake and the bakery lady, a lady in her 60s or so, was counting the money, without gloves mind you. I was trying to be nice and waited until she was done counting and I caught her attention before she started another stack. She walks over and I try to order the mango mousse, but before she touches the edge of the cake, I asked kindly if she would wash her hands before she gets it (because money and all). She informs me very rudely that she will not touch the cake and rudely throws the bar code at me and tells to go in the cashier line, pay for it first and then come back. So I did just that, but in line I saw the price for the cake was $12.95 and when they rang it up it was $18.99. And out of curiosity I asked about the price difference. Than manager comes over and then we follow her and the bakery lady is there. And they start arguing in Chinese. The bakery lady angrily advances towards me and tries to bring me back to the bakery to show me the price. But by then I had enough. Didn't buy the cake in the end. Honestly the price jump is kind of ridiculous (I remember when they were actually $12.95) and after seeing her reaction to washing her hands, I don't trust how they make the cakes anymore or any baked goods at all.
Also if you buy the huge fluffy cupcakes there, beware...
Read moreHuman kindness = 0%! Before shopping my kids needed to use the restroom. So just outside of the cashiers, the restrooms are just to the left. As we were walking towards the restrooms, a young asian couple (yes I'm Asian too!) stopped in front of the restroom entrance. The guy was going the same way. The restroom had a keypad, so we patiently for the young guy to come out. As he's coming out, I asked him, if he knew the code for the ladies restroom, he's response was in a different language and started walking towards the girl that was waiting for him. Looks like he was asking the girl about what I had said, then she started to hide from my view. They started chit chatting some more....wow it just seemed like forever. So i took my kids and walked right pass them, feeling very appalled! Found an employee inside 99 ranch and asked for the restroom and they were nice enough to direct us.
Wow what an experience! I have mixed feelings, is this what covid is doing to us or are people naturally disregarding human kindness! I would love to to that too but I believe strongly in KARMA! Yeap, I'll...
Read moreYAU CHA KUAY - Chinese Bread Sticks. 6/17/2022. On my 2nd trip to 99 Ranch in Daly City I was finally able to locate these Bread Sticks Made in Canada. They were kept on the very top shelf of the freezer, far away from a number of bread sticks imported from China. The ones from Canada (see picture) are lighter with no trace of oil. They are perfect with my porridges but I use them mostly with my morning coffee latte. I don’t know why the store doesn’t keep the 2 brands next to each other so we, as consumer, can make our own choice without having so much trouble walking around hunting for the brand we want. Anyway, thank you 99 Ranch for making this brand from Canada available to us.
FOUND! MY FAVORITE PINEAPPLE CAKE FROM TAIWAN. 6/16/2022. At this 99 Ranch Market on top of the hill I found these pineapple cakes that, in the past, I could only buy at the Taoyuan Airport in Taipei during my transit stop. Soft with a perfect level of sweetness for me the pineapple is fragrant and so...
